This is a common experience with 172 Cup ownership!
The basic principle of the compensator valve is to regulate the brake fluid pressure to the rear calipers depending on the load over the rear axle and is actuated via mechanical connection to the rear suspension beam. The purpose of this is to...
It's best practice to replace all 4 spark plugs at the same time - I don't know why you would only replace one.
Misfiring could also be dodgy ignition leads. Check condition and resistance over the existing ones, and replace with OEM Renault if necessary.
Unfortunately there aren't any Haynes manuals for 1*2 Clios, but there are a suite of helpful user guides on this forum - including one for upgrading the dogbone mount with Powerflex bushes. These can be accessed by signing up for full membership, which I can assure you is worth every penny.
I wouldn't dismiss a car just because of the colour, go on maintenance record and general condition.
But having said that, stalling at idle isn't a good sign. Timing could well be out given the evidence of camshaft and belt changes and rectifying any issues won't be cheap.
If you're going for a 182, most members recommend going for a Full Fat as the 182 Cup does away with luxuries that aren't worth the weight decrease and they share the same Cup suspension regardless.
Silver 172s are fairly plentiful, but Cups in the same colour are quite rare
Ah right, fair doos! Need 4 x 100 PCD and of at least 15" in order to fit to hubs and clear front brake calipers. Could always check Sales section of forums and/or a Wanted ad up to see if anyone on here has some old & cheap wheels with tyres suitable for the job.
Nice one on the centre caps -...
Wheels wise, stick with the OZ F1s and see if you can source some Renault centre caps. However, they're becoming as rare as hen's teeth so here's another option http://www.cliosport.net/threads/make-your-own-oz-f1-centre-caps.714721/page-3 if you wish to avoid expense and maintain an OEM look...
Whatever you do in terms of modifications, make sure it's returnable to OEM spec, as 172 Cups in original or near original spec are becoming as rare as hen's teeth!
Mods wise, I've only Powerflex'ed the anti-roll bar bushes and lower engine-gearbox 'dogbone' mount. Otherwise, stock powertrain...
Thanks!
Agreed. Given what's on offer in terms of motor racing, car clubs, live music, infrastructure (free shuttle buses to and from Wing etc), I'd say the ~£90 weekend ticket is worth every penny.
Forgot to mention; everyone's welcome to post their own pics in this thread should they wish
An absolutely brilliant event that I would recommend to anyone with even the slightest interest in motoring and motorsport!
Some favourites of mine from the car clubs & Wing;
I've noticed this cold start condition is most noticeable when the outdoor/ambient temperature is roughly between 7-15C, but outside that range it feels less severe.
Good ol RS Clio quirks!
Apparently the lower suspension arm interface on the Cup's subframe is further outboard in comparison to a standard 172. As a result the distance from hub to gearbox is greater which requires the driveshafts to be longer.
