Try a high power jet wash first to blast most of the flaky bits off as your splitters have had a lacquer coat, after this any stubborn bits of lacquer left will need wet and dry sanding flat, just becareful at this stage not to hit the primary layer which contains the carbon weave.
Then...
Thank you for the passenger ride today matey, I thought some of those cars you overtook where meant to be quick ha ha
The car handles like its on rails, the acceleration and gear changes were awesome ;-)
Glad the Brake Ducts helped out and worked as they should matey, even with your large discs to see an improvement is a bonus.
Hope the weather holds out this week and all being well I'll take you up on your offer on Thursday.
I didn't realise the newer ones did that, been a few years since I was last panicking at scruiteneering when they pushed the button and nothing happens lol
Does it just cut the main earth cable? Or is it more complex than that?
Great video matey, those throttle boddies are quite therapeutic.
We used to have issues with the electronic cut off's not killing the charging wire from the alternator, basically the engine keeps running off the alternator.
I'm nearly 100% sure we switched it round to disconnect the earth...
Why would Renault sport fit them in the first place if they were a complete waste of time!!
As for the comments about why bother fitting them just leave a hole, I think this comes down to personal taste on how they want there car to look with the added benefit of front brake cooling.
Re: sonny172cup "track racer project"
Hi Sonny,
I have a bonnet here that used to have then fitted if you want me to put a piece of paper on them around draw the holes that's not a problem.
Pm me your address and I'll sort it out for you tomorrow.
I'm not sure of streamlines set up, but they may also use a thin film of gel coat or epoxy before putting the pre-preg carbon into the mould.
I only really use lacquer on overlaid parts as the clarity it gives is excellent compared to some of the clear gel coats.
I doubt halfords would sell it, due to its nature they normally sell the cellulose type.
Ebay is the best bet or a local paint supplier will have some.
You can still lacquer gel coat though, it's just a case of getting it to key with the prep work.
If its keyed in properly lacquer will last years on carbon fibre items as it does on the paint work of your car.
The only thing to watch out for is if the lacquer completely cures and you re-apply another coat as the second layer won't adhere to the first and eventually this will flake off. Learnt that through trial and error lol
As said above really, use some wet and dry and flat it all off, if the lacquers peeling really bad you may be able to gently scrape it off.
Any high gloss good clarity 2pac lacquer will do as its strong when it sets, try and use scratch resistant as it will stay shinier for longer.
Hope this helps
Good luck James, hope you enjoy it and all of your hard work pays off ;-)
Think you should take orders for your wiring as quite a few people were impressed with it last weekend.
They are approximately 7kg out of the moulds, I could get them lighter by hole cutting around the edges.
If you wanted to go for carbon then they would be even lighter and stronger than your steel doors.
