£18500 Trophy.

This is interesting, 1 owner 11,000 miles. £18,500.

Car looks lovely, obviously going to be pretty rare with that ownership mileage. But has a 182 of any description ever sold for that much? Great if it does.

Last serviced 3 years ago and you can bet they've ragged it for a few miles since it left its original owner. Very silly price though.

Any chance they've used photos from an old listing or something?

Seems daft to clock it for the sake of a few hundred or thousand miles.

That MOT is Feb 2020, so even if it's done a couple of k since, you'd have to be thick as s**t to clock it back to just below last MOT reading, why not just sell it at 13k miles or whatever? Hell, even if was used all year and now has 20k... Surely you don't throw that away and get caught doing something this stupid?

I totally agree but if you are wanting top dollar you cross every T and dot every I.

If I was asking for £18k for a 3 door Clio I would have everything spot on and perfect.

Mot states - 11,880
Advert picture states - 11,863
Advert description says - 11,800

I agree, yet so often we see stupid prices asked for cars and the seller doesn't put any effort in to the listing.

This is very true, There is less and less effort going into the add's on all platforms but if you are a car dealer worth your salt and you are wanting top buck its f**king silly to have a shite add IMO

Background in the pictures looks roughly correct for this time of year?

People are stupid though.

It shouldn't really matter, but the sort of questions it raises don't usually have an acceptable answer, not when you consider the kind of money this person is wanted off you.

Kool car, its like going back in a time warp! If I was wedged I would consider it to relive my youth. PE2's are probably past it, along with the other rubbers on the car. Also would the Sach's need a rebuild by now aready?

I was thinking photos from a shoot this time last year, because then it would make sense that the mileage is a tiny bit below what it was at the MOT.

Yea would make sense.
Lazy seller tho to not even bother doing your own pics, I guess it saves them having to bother cleaning the thing.

Tbh, I think the pics aren't good enough for this type of sale.

They're good, and would be fine for a normal car, but when you're asking that money for this car, I think you need really high quality photos taken with a proper camera, a decent backdrop, and the photos need to pop, they need to be well edited.

If you look at a dealer like Redline for example, you see how much more desirable you can make cars look with proper photography and backdrop.

Even when there was that 10k very polished Clio on here, photos were in a hangar and well edited etc, just taking some phone photos in a messy lay-by isn't great.

Yea, the poo bin in the background of the picture doesn't scream "Prestige" to be fair.

Also, judging by the two other cars the seller has up for sale, thats messy lay-by is their favourite spot to photograph cars.
So kinda looks like those pictures are current.

If you can get your photoshoot done at the same time and place you go dogging it's two birds with one stone.

Thermostat isn’t where it should be, assuming it’s been driven to the lay-by.

Atleast one alloy (the one showed) has curbing.

If your going to ask silly money, and it is silly, atleast get the small stuff sorted first 🙈

It’s with same dealer who listed it 2 years ago so maybe a cross over with photos and mileage. Certainly the description is the same as the last ad.
I think really any minor nitpicking is missing the point with this car, youre buying a ex showroom car that has done 11k not a car that is dressed up to sell. In classic car circles it’s patina, a bit like cracks in a leather seat etc. it doesn’t need loads of filter photos in stately home surroundings.

im not saying it’s right or wrong or the price is high or low but if you’re the sort of person with £18k to spend on it i doubt you will be rattling round the countryside in it or worrying about a bit of aged chipping to a wheel. The purchase will be solely with one eye on appreciation of the asset

At £18k, I genuinely don’t see any value in that. I think £18k has to be as far as a 182 could go.

We aren’t talking about some Italian exotica. It’s a 3 dr French hatchback. The V6 was exotic.

Queue this thread being bumped in 2050.

I wouldn’t say a 1970 1300 escort is exotic but you wouldn’t get much change out of £10k. Put an RS badge on and an average trophy sale would just about pay for decent interior for a mexico

Only your opinion that it’s the top mate.
I sold my V6 for £20k because I was worried no one would pay more than that for one, 5 years later it’s worth £40k.

Another day, another thread moaning about Clio prices 🤦‍♂️
Thread wasn’t meant to be a moan, it was a genuine question! But it did flag with me as a bloody rare car with such low mileage and ownership. Also it must be a right at the top end of trophy pricing.

Like I have said countless times. I really am for these higher priced listings. It’s helping push on the prices of the run of the mill cars like mine!

That is not an investment purchase as the price is high already. You couldn't use it either as the value is in the lack of miles, which is a shame.

If you're a multi-multi-millionaire, dropping £18k on a Clio is pocket money. If a collector out there fancies it, and wants something super low mileage, firstly, they're not going to have a huge amount of options - how many Trophy's exist on this mileage? Secondly, even if they lost £5k on it over five years, are they going to care that much? I suspect this car is aimed at a very different class of buyer to the sort that reside on this forum. It would be bought, sit in a lovely heated barn/warehouse/garage alongside a load of other rare/interesting cars, never actually be driven, and then likely be sold on again. Even if they don't make any money, they might just enjoy owning it for a while, or taking a bit of a punt with some pocket money.

Ultimately, everyone on here should be hoping it makes every penny of the asking price, as it will drag the prices of all of our cars upwards.
