Videoed ...

I've got another video that I've put online (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JCgptvRARE) which is a slightly slower time, but still better than 8.4 seconds!
I set the start and end points by going frame by frame: http://ccgi.pendulum.plus.com/mov.wmv
It takes 7.09 seconds from when the speedo needle moves to when it gets to an indicated 60mph on the speedo, from the perspective of the camera.

We all know speedo's tend to overread, lets say 64mph on the speedo is a true 60mph road speed.

That adds a genuine 1.12 seconds to the time.

So we're at 8.21 seconds now... the book time is 8.4? Now consider in the video, the needle will appear further around the dial than it would to you in the driver's seat because the camera's mounted slightly to the side and further down...

Personally I think that video you posted shows a 0-60 of about book time, give or take a 200 or 300 milliseconds either way.

Did I just read that?

Love this thread.

Anyone timing their cars from video and using the needle to 'guess' the speed need to recognise.

And why does the damn 106 GTi always come into the chat?

Last time i was at the Pod i was getting 5.5's - 5.7's thats with 2 tornado 15's in the boot but towards the end of 1st gear i was getting piston slap due to oil surge so i had to back off a bit, So after changing from blue neons to red neons everything came together and i was getting low 4's pretty much.

^^^ True story im his mate and i saw him do it

I used that Dyno iphone app, I know it's not exact but it beeped when my speedo read about 62mph so I assume it's not too far off, and it said 0-60 was 6.38 seconds. I assume it's probably generous by a couple of tenths but for a free app it's cool

This very same app told me that my 85hp van did 0 to 60 in 7 seconds. I was a little doubtful tbh
