1.2 16v Conversion

HI, i have a 1.2 16v (hehe) yeah i kno and i was wanting to do somethingfun :D i thought of NOS to start with and now my friend told me abou putting a renault 5 turbo engine in> anyone know who will do thi and how much it will cst me?

i cant see much point in putting a much older, relatively unreliable engine in a new car in all honesty. if you going to do a conversion you may as well go for a 172 conversion which should cost around the 3k mark, plus your insurance.

172 and 182 engines are rubbish though :) i'd much rather have the 1.4 turbo engine which is as quick as the 172's and can easily b modified !! sorry 172 and 182 owners

Why don't you reel off some tolerances...... google search maybe? why try and prove something you don't know. why don't you accept people know what theyre talking about... Why put an old block in like that? (thats a lot of why's i know but it does my head in somewhat when people won't listen) if your so fixed on putting that engine in then why ask the question?

its my opinion guys :p i've driven 172 and then a civic type-r and varous others...don't get me wrng clios are good little car but i just think for a 2l engine there shud be moe ower...its a spots car :) it shud rip your wee little fae off...well thats my expectations anyway other wise just call it a 2l not a sport ! i've see r5 engines with like 300bh andrunning like a dream, i'mnot tryin to tick people off but persponally id like other options :p
 
there was a guy in maxpower he lived in shepperton selling a turboed 1.4 r5 engine in a clio 1.2... look and sounded really cool

yep you have seen R5 engines with 300BHP look at BBPT's 172 turbo its 280BHP i think and can be pushed further with a better gearbox iirc

the R5 engine is very old and unreliable if not looked after.

you say a 172 should have more power (standard) but a standard R5 GGT has what 120bhp?

i think i would prefer i knew engine to and old, would expect it to last longer. and if u find and r5 that hasnt been ragged ill be impressed
 
Forget the R5 engine its not bad its got a lot of tunning potential but instalation is about £1.5k then say the same again for a bit of reconditioning to the engine to ensure whenyour pushing 200+hp its reliable (turning the boost up isn't the way to making a car reliable).
A turbo engine alsoys seems quicker than a N/A one due to the way it produces its power and comes on boost although a 172hp R5 engine vs 172hp Clio engine is exactly the same power.
With the Mk2 2 cars its better to go either fit a 172/182 engine or go to a VAG engine etc with stand alone ECU but thats not cheap.
A reliable R5 with 300hp isn't cheap.

I was thinking about putting an 5.7 litre diesel engine in my car from our old wagon at work, do you think this is a good idea?!?! :rolleyes:

i think u need to watch the 182 video that was on top gear mate!
faster than a Ferrari 575 maranello round the track (if u know what one of those is)
if thats not quick i dont know what is!
