1.2 16v Decat Question

  Liquid Yellow 182 FF
Hello there!

I know there's alot of 1.2 decat haters, but still.

I recently managed to get a second Cat on the cheap and after watching the 'Ghetto decat' video and reading the thread I decided to have a 'bash' at it ;) Straight swap, took less than half an hour to do. Anyway, I have a Ktec Supersport stealth system, and as much as I liked it popping away more I couldn't deal with the tinny sound it made with the bashed out cat, it just sounded s**t. Ive since swapped it back over with my standard cat and it now sounds nice again.

However, I got on to Longlife today by phone and asked them how much it was cost to get a proper pipe made up for it, I am considering, but wanted to know if it will sound alot better and what I can expect? Im after some more noise and rasp. If anyone's had a proper decat on a 1.2 or has vids with a similar set up any advice would be great. Is it worth doing or should I just stick with the cat back and save myself some dollar?

On a side note when I decatted it no warning lights came on which surprised me as the sensors where all plugged in properly to?

Cheers,

Have you listened to f0xy's decat on the car?

I never had a de-cat on my 1.2, but I've got one on the T and its very tinny between 2-3k then nothing else through the revs. You wont get the EML on straight away, mines only just come on after about 2k with the de-cat.

What exhaust have you got?

Did you read my post mate? ;) Ive already had a go at the DIY decat and it sounded w**k, Ive got the Ktec supersport stealth system.

Basically will it sound better with a proper decat pipe made up and is it worth doing? ;)

Because my proper decat on the T sounds tinny as f**k I doubt you can get any real 'rasp' from a de-cat, on any car!

Don't waste money on getting a de-cat made up tbh, seems like a waste of good money.

Oh right! I get you now, sorry I thought you meant you'd ghettoed it. Yeah that's what I'm concerned about, just wanted to ask and see if anyone had done it and what it sound's like tbh. Cheers though mate.

Thing is longlife have said it'l cost £90 for a proper made up pipe, but I don't want it to sound s**t and tinny and have wasted my money.

It will, give me the modified cat, i need some sound!

Thing is though, surely it sounded tinny because the gas had to go through an empty cat? If its just a pipe it will go straight through and wont sound tinny?? If I come to your's tomorrow i'll fit it for you mate :)

standard cat and pipe, just put a cherry bomb on it. nice growl, slightly raspy, loud, and pops and bangs nearly every time you take your foot of the pedal. oh and there cheap

Ok mate cool. I think it'll be tinny but maybe not as much as it might not echo though a straight pipe? I duno tbh, sounds good enough as it is though!

I know its going to sound different on mine, but here is a video of mine with a decat. As you can tell its tinny, and this is with a proper decat so how does that compare to the pikey decat?

Dont really want a cherry bomb, would rather have my current full system.

That's the issue ive got George, I dont want to spend £90 just to find out either haha!

And yeah, that sounds similar to my ghetto decat Jon but with a piddly little 1.2 behind it.

will make no difference on a 1.2 mate. noise is all your after then its the easiest/one of the best ways to go

It's worth while I paid 40 and did make an improvement in performance but 80% of that is the sound makes u feel your going a lot quicker than you are. Made 80.3bhp improvement on rollers with home made induction kit and just that decat so it must be helping...

Just blank lambda sensor so it not reading engine management will fuel better.
