1.2 16v Spark Plugs

Im not a Clio owner so forgive me! I used the search and off the NGK recommendation i brought some of the LZKAR7A plugs for £3.19 each.. Bargain...

Need to change them tonight, and i just want to make sure im not going to run into any problems????

I've changed plugs on Honda's, Peugeot 206's, etc.. So am i going to need any special tools, and is there anything i should be aware of?

Has anyone written a guide? I checked in the FAQ but couldnt see anything?

Cheers!

Should encounter no problems.

The 1.2 16v uses a very slim 14mm iirc "Euro Socket" to get to the plugs.

I have seen a coupler dotted in Halfords made by Laser tools.
Other then that no different to any other car.

Oh, you may have issue with the HT lead rubbers. They become loose from the lead and get left on top of the plug, which u need to remove carefully.

Thanks Has!

So if i use a 14mm one of these:

That should be all i need?! :approve:

I read that the holes to the plugs are quite deep.. I usually use a set of pliers to get them out, this should work ok on the Clio?

All that tool is, is just a massive 14mm Socket?! Seems a bit of a rip off ! :quiet:

Aye, they are deep.

Its just a very narrow tool with the spark plug attatchment. Handy for a mechanic, but for a one off u dont need to get one unless ur currenty kit dont fit!

All good fun :D

Damn!

I just changed the plugs, very easy, except cylinder 2 (or 3) the lead pulled out of the holder end thing of the HT lead?

It was really loose though compared to the others???

Car is still misfiring though, not quite as bad mind....

Guessing the coil needs replacing?

Looks like the leads are attached to the coil when you buy them? Is this right? How much do Renault charge (a) for the part (b) for the part and fitting?

Its for a girl mate!

Cheers!

Yup they are the rubbers i was telling you about. Crap design.

Yes coil pack is attatched to the HT leads.

Retail the set is about £58+VAT, unless prices have changed a lot.
I wouldnt get renault to change it! I wouldnt be suprised if they charged for 1 or 2 hours labour, which is silly.

Its held on by 2 torx bits and 1 connector.

Just bringing this back up, wheres the best place to get the part from other than renault, or is the OEM part the best bet? I seen some on ebay for circa £40-45..

Cheers, it also looked well easy to change!

I dont think anyone else sells them.

Id just get the Renault one, its not much more in price and at leats it is made for it.

I wudnt go any cheaper on things already lol

I went thru 4 of them on my old 1.2, they are pretty crap!

I had mine from 19,000 all the way to 90,000 so not tooo bad. She had plenty more life left in her!

The Renault eqv of that is only a few pounds more! So id go there.

I can see a design issue on that ebay one already, there are no grooves cut out for the HT leads to fold back into so its not squashed by the engine cover.

(Altho they maybe on the underside in tht pic, but dont see it)

Ive never paid more then £55 from Renault for it.

I've mailed GSF for a price on the part to see what they come up with ...

Like you say, if its only a few quid more, its not a big problem!

Any idea's on the part number from Renault? I take it, if you buy a coilpack from Renault the leads are always attached to it? (i.e can you disconnect the leads from the coilpack?)

Dont have the number to hand but they will know what it is easily.

The leads come with it, they are not removable from the coil pack on these.

Im going to change the Coil Pack this evening, its a genuine renault part!

Its easy enough to change i imagine? What tools will i need? I''ve got the torx screw things...
