can i do this?

only cosmetically i want to use original parts (mk1)

Nevermind cosmetically, would it be possible (economically feasible) to transplant the 172 (2.0l megane...) lump? What would one need to consider to do this?

Tom. Im assuming you have a 3dr 1.2

if so then it should be very possible. Change the bumpers, wheels, rear boot spoiler thingy, and wheels and cosmetically you should be very close.

Im saving my pennies to colour code the bumpers and boot spoiler on mine . not quite a 172 but looks damn nice

did i say i wanted to change the engine?

it would cost far to much and you need the rear beam for the brakes

all i want to to is make it look identical to a mk1 172

i have the rear bumper, lights, and spoiler

i need the front bumper front wings(i think) and side skirts

but i dont know how much any of this costs

you could always *gulp* try renault

Id guess it would probably cost near to what you paid for the rear components

if it aint a 172 why bother? you spending all this money to make your car look like a normal "172", why not build something different and more indivual?

Caution!!! You mayve kicked off the "i hate people trying to imitate a 172" thing again!!! Just thought id warn you that all the 172 boys and girls dont like people trying to look like them in a 1.2!!!

i want a 172 but cannot afford the insurance

i like the way it looks

so my 1.2 will be individual it has a facelift rear end lights bumper and boot release all i want is a 172 front end

then maybe later on i can use "172 only" kits

Youll be needing the front bumper, wings+skirts (+interior???) MK1 or MK2 shape??? New grill as well. Youll probably have to space out your front wheels (maybe rear as well) cos of the wider front wings

mk1, the interior is customised anyway so no on that one

the wings just bolt off dont they? the bumper is easy

spacing isnt a problem as i have new wheels on the way soon

I tried to create a 16v out of my old 1.2 (1995). Basically, youre better off making something that looks really nice, but doesnt go as well as it should! In the end I bought a 16v, because I was going to have to spend way too much to get what I wanted.

What I know is that the 16v is markedly different from a 1.2/RT, both to look at and under the skin. I would imagine thats the case with the 172. Renault will have moded all the things you can think of - and more - for much less than youll be able to do it for.

If you want an individual looking car, then do up your 1.2. But if you want a 172, then save up! Im not going to get into the whole "is a 172 more fun to drive than a 1.2?" debate as I think unless youve driven both then its not right to comment.

Tom - why are u turning a decent MK2 1.2 16V into a Mk1 172 - would u not be better getting a MK 2 172 bumper and wings - the MK1 wont fit ur shape?

sorry i have a 2001 pre-facelift clio 1.2 16v (75bhp ish)

all i wanted to know (not being funny) is if the mk1 172 front wings and bumper will go on my car

i can tell you now the 172 is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better to drive the 1.2 has its charm (rather alarming body roll rules!!!!)

Today i saw a mk.1 172 rear bumper on a lower spec black clio - it looked good. He had tints, but Im not a fan of tints :( I like people to see whose driving a nice car!

yes should be a straight swap. the wings, sideskirts and bumper should bolt straight on.
