I just had one as a courtesy car.. now bear in mind my regular car is a 172 so powerwise it isnt going to impress me and that I only had the car for 3 days. okay here goes

The 1.2 dynamique is a excellent car, It had most of the toys my 172 has. It accellerates quite nicely up to 60 mph but after than things dont happen very quickly. I find that even in town driving I had to rev it quite a bit, and the engine noise is quite loud.(on the 172 I can drive without really hearing the engine by changing gear as soon as the engine allows)

One thing my 1.2 had which I missed in my 172 a bit was a sunroof, but the 172 has climate control and aircon so I guess its not really needed.

Handling wise the 1.2 deffinatly will need some work done to lower/stiffen the suspension, but the ride quality in the 1.2 is much better than the 172 as it absorbs bumps in the road much better.

The 1.2 lacks the surge you get at 4-5krpm in the 172 but as stated before only really seems to struggle after 60mph.

Back on the handling, when going round some corners with pace.. I was actually a little bit scared because the car bounced so much it would pull the steering wheel.

Interior is okay, the seat seem to be quite good with plenty of support for going round those corners, again its not as plush as the 172 but its not bad at all, and as stated earlier the car has most of the stuff the 172 has, like auto wipers, auto lights, one touch electric driver side window, electric mirrors etc.

All in all not a bad car, and if all I was going to be doing is town driving I would consider this car.

from what i hear its better than a corsa sxi lol........................ lowering will void some part of the warranty............fitted the springs with my mate.

lol. always park on the grass, makes it easier to get the other cars out LOL

Yeah I love it.. Nice and smooth, well equipped, not sure about speed yet, as still running it in (done 450 miles) But then if I wanna go fast I have the Williams ;) They are obviously pretty strong in a crash as a Rover 200 (L reg) wrote itself off into the back of my car, and apparently the wheel well is only slightly damaged... hmm... Just want the thing fixed and back on road!! (cant drive due to zorst hanging off it, so have a basic Ka to use lol)

btw what colour u ordered urs in??? And they do take ages... Ordered mine 5th Feb, got into dealer on 20th March..

ordered mine in platinum silver. i have just got rid of my clio 16v and am in the process of selling my golf cabriolet. just want somethin reliable that looks good and is economical.

i will av some 17s on it in a few weeks and probably tint my windows.

Ive had two. Excellent cars, loads you can do, I colour coded the second one which was platinum makes it look much smarter and can be done for around £200. Lowered mine makes the world of difference to the handling. 17s dont upset the handling at all. My first one was ordered 1st week of August (Couple of weeks after the model came out) and took delivary third week in November so 6weeks aint bad compared to 13!!!

any more pics and opinions people. seems so far that everyone is happy with there 1.2 and has no problems with it. what sort of mpg are you all getting?

Silver.. undenaibly the best colour there is..
The 172 silver is nice but the lesser clios dont have such a nice one IMO

Anyway the Dynamique is a good car, though reliabilty maybe an issue im afraid. I have an extreme, it has the 172s CD player and Climate added on plus a different trim. They are well built inside and look good. Handling is feelsome though there is too much roll. Brakes are strong but start to fade after brisk driving. For a 1149cc car they are very quick, all 1.216v owners seem to of got 120mph top whack!
If youre a car enthusiast i doubt youll be put off by the reliability and will be happy with the value for money.

usually around 42mpg. Did a run upto sunderland on motorway lastweek before I got pxd it and got 47mpg. My extreme was superb, only took it to renault once for sunroof. My dynamique had a couple of visits main one was for the stalling problem which is corrected by an ecu fault. Also had the leather on the steering wheel coming off, new seat cover as it had worn round the headrest and two dodgy keys. All trim faults nothing mechanical.

My mate has an extreme had no problems except worn pads at 11k which had damaged the discs so £170. Fella at renault said hes seen it a couple of times with people who must use the brakes excessivley. Worth noting!!!

do you mean the seats are less supportive than the 172 ones???? (theyre the same as the 172/cup BTW!!!!!;))

No, as I said the seats give plenty of support for going round those corners.. but they are not as plush (as in leather/alcantara) as the 172 ones..

And the seats are not exactly the same as the Cup/1.2 ones cause the driver one has lumbar adjustments.

And one other thing.. how high up do you feel when your sitting in the 1.2, I felt very far away from the ground. (and before you say yes I did try the height adjustment.. it was all the way down)

When I got back in the 172 it felt a lot lower down and better seating position.

front left of the seat Rob

Erm KDF, my seats have lumbar adjust heigt adjust etc (plus i have a 172 interior in mine!!!) It feels exactly the same as Roamers 172???? I think i have the oldest MK2 clio 2001 July, so maybe mine is "special" LOL!!!

Yes the driving position is very high but you get used to it!!!

see http://www.adrenalinone.co.uk/clio.htmlwww.adrenalinone.co.uk/clio.html for some more pictures.

Generally a good car, niggles as I guess with all cars, Just renault get on your nerves with tehir occasional unwillingness to do anything!!

The great fun though, lots of potential too.

rob: 120mph???? is that confirmed or on the speedo?

Have fun enjoy it.

I have had a 1.2 since January last year and have found it a top little car. You need to lower it because it handles a little erratic on the limit in standard form. The standard alloys are pants and the tyres are plain crap so may aswell change them asap. 17s fit with no problems at all but acceleration is effected quite a bit (mine ran a 19.8 quarter mile with subs and amps and camping gear in the boot on 17s at Crail)

Have had the customary stalling faults on mine (as it sounds like have all Clios of this age) and has had the ecu remapped and a new throttle body. There was a problem with the wiring harness as the ecu anti-tamper box rubbed on it and caused the car to short (at 95 in the fast lane I might add!).

The bumpers and all plastic parts of the car are also slightly off colour under sodium light, which, while being more noticeable on a gold car, I have noticed on pretty much all Clios.

MPG wise the best I have seen on a long run is 53.9mpg which was from Newcastle to Crail in Scotland, this included 6 runs up the strip! As an average it gets mid to high 30s, but the missus drives 4 miles to work and back up some seriously steep hills and in heavy traffic, average speed is normally about 15mph over a full tank! Average driving for me sees about 40-45mpg as I do more free running journeys.

The 17s did make a difference to mpg, of about 5 mpg, which suprised me quite a bit.

For ICE the cars are pretty good with a good acoustic sound very easy to attain with very little work. Dynamat will become your best friend though if you want it not to rattle too much. Saying that I appear to be lucky and still ahve a rattle free car 14 months later.

If you want it to go quick I would advise you to buy a 1.4, cos the money it costs to make it faster in the real world equates to the same as buying a 1.4 in the first place (ie. full system, manifold, de-cat, induction kit and chip as a starter).

If its lowered though you will be suprised what you can race in 2nd - 3rd gear roads. Corsas of the same engine size are no problem, have seen a few 1.4 Corsas dwindle into the rear view a few times. Saxos are good to race as they appear to be fairly lively but a bit skitish ono the bends, where they are easy prey, no matter hwo hard I try I cant beat a Vts though, and can only just say i kept up with a Vtr, and that was cos he couldnt corner very well.

I test drove all the cars in the Clios class when I went out for mine and I have to say that I am still happy with my choice, just wish I got a 1.4 or 1.6 instead, but thats just my opinion.

Sure you will love it as all of us learn to, dont think a better new car for the money can be bought.........;)

i wont list the problems ive had.

ok as you asked so nicely.......................

TOMS TOP 5 CLIO f**k UPS

1. Three (Count em) Gearboxes
2. Lots of drive shafts
3. Ecu failure
4. Seat failure
5. Dealer Failure
But aside from that im happy wiv me beauty

there seems to be quite a few problems people have had with these cars. but your cars look good, i am getting platinum silver and going off one of the pictures above it looks better colour coded.

It will cost around £200 for you to get it colour coded. A worthwile addition if you plan to do a few mods. I do think the pre facelift model looks better in that colour though personally, and black is the best for post facelift. Though i would say that..

Chris here is my tale of ownership... bought the car (1.2 extreme) 9 months ago and clocked up over 10k miles with very few problems though I am planning to take it to the dealer soon for the following

temperature sensor broken (shows over 40 degrees always)
drivers side window gets stuck in hot weather
rattle from sunroof catch
twice had a problem starting from cold (SERV light stays on)
nothing that I cant live with though. I usually average about 46 mpg non-motorway driving over 50mpg on the mway. I have had to top up the oil once and it will need it again soon but I may ask the dealer to do a full service when I take it in as much of my driving is in traffic. I am still very happy with the car and unlikely to change it for a while.

I think its like everything else, you get a good un or a bad un. If its a bad un play hell! If its a good un you will love it to bits

Ive had my clio dynamique billabong for 6 weeks now, its a really nice car apart from a couple of problems. The sun roof really rattles, and the engine hunts around when started, then cuts out when warm (both being fixed tomorrow) when i got it there were bubbles on the bonnet, a rattling dash and a squeaky window, all were fixed promptly by the dealer, oh and my pedals are squeaky. But apart from that I thinks its an excellent car!!! Oh and the best colours are either black or Cyclone blue (the colour of mine). Only my opinion of course!!!

Oh but all that aside its a much better car than a mk2 Punto. If you want real reliability probs (headgasket going at 4k etc) buy a Punto. The Clio is better made, quicker, better equipped, has less body roll and for those of you complaining the ride is high, sit in a bloody Punto!!!!!!!

if you think what the competition is for the Clio 1.2 16v then you realize how good a car it is:

lets see, you could have a Corsa (yeah right) a new Micra (mmm, let me think), a low spec Yaris (I doubt it- maybe the t-sport for 3k more!)a Saxo (just that little bit tooooo common, and imho crap!)

I love my Clio, its just time for something with more power! (might just chip, filter, exhaust , manifold the lot it!) should be a laugh, but is it worth modding the 1.2, apart from styling it, no...

My flatmate and I both have Valvers, so it was a bit of a novelty when he got a brand new 1.2 16v as a courtesy car.

Far, far better than the Mk1 1.2s ever were and much closer to the top of the range in most ways (when did you ever mistake a Mk1 1.2 for a 16v/Williams?!).

We just sat in the car starting it over and over again becuse it started so quickly (a novely for Valver owners) and opening and shutting the doors to hear the thud it would make (instead of a tinny rattle).

Pig slow above walking pace, but lovely all the same!
