1.2 slight knocking and hissing

Hi,

My engine has developed a slight knock on idle and a hissing noise constantly (more noticeable after the engine is switched off for a couple of seconds)

Any ideas? Will upload a video shortly

Im pretty sure the hissing when just switched off is normal i may be wrong but i think mine does it

Sorry! Manifold maybe, is it a definite 'knock' or could it be a tap? I ask as a manifold leak often sounds tappy and hissy!

Forgot to mention the strong smell of petrol under the bonnet when running too

Right, this has got worse. On full lock when setting off there is an AWFUL noise from the gearbox/clutch/somewhere as jonff experienced on Sunday night much to his shock and horror at thinking he broke the car (face was a picture). There is a metallic noise near the top of the rev range (only really noticeable in first so not sure if it is in other gears). Also when you are in first and have to put the clutch right in whilst driving the car properly lunges. Also a horrible grinding noise can sometimes be heard when setting off from a stand still.

is it a high pitched like metalic vibrating noise by any chance?

Well mines been doing it for ages, and I took it to a couple of Renault places and was told it was clutch, as my clutch isn't very progressive and in first gear pulling away I get a very loud metallic screechy noise, sometimes when I change to second to. Its been doing for a year and hasn't got any worse, just need to the money to sort it tbh, mine doesn't hiss or knock though.

My clutch was changed in march, this was apparent before I got it changed (i changed the clutch assuming it was that) but that problem didn't go away, and has go progressivley worse. The metallic noise hasn't though.

I'll try and get a video of mine at some point, Ive been trying to get to the bottom of it for ages, but haven't gotten anywhere with it, Ive just accepted it now, but it can be so loud in first when pulling away, I feel it through my clutch pedal though.

Mine doesn't stink of petrol or run s**t or anything, just literally when I pull away, maybe its not the same thing?
