1.2 Subframe Onto A 172...

  RB 182
The gearbox mount that isnt on the 1.2, is it vital?

Ive had nothing but trouble getting subframe off, and i just want my car back on the road lol

Can i just cut the stud off but leave the actual mount there resting on the subframe?

Have u measured the distance between the lower arm mounts? I've heard mixed
opinions on weather the 172 one is 1/2" wider than the 1.2's ect causing negative camber?

Do u have both to check?

hmmm i actually found an inch difference between wishbone bolt holes when i changed to running 172 brakes etc, with the 1.2 subframe still in the nearside drive shaft caused the gearbox to move as it was forced by the knuckles/joints on the driveshaft.

i hate to dissagree with you fred i really do but this time i do.

but that just means the length of the wishbone is different, which isn't in question. The actual subframe is the same width. There's even a difference between ph1 172 and 182 wishbones.

well i got a complete front end off a ph1, put everything onto my 1.2 apart from the subframe itself. found the driveshafts were too long. fitted the "sport" subframe and it fixed the problem.

:S

wishbones (well mainly balljoints) are different, hence why i run 1.2 driveshafts, infact the whole front end is 1.2

but i put 2.0 wishbones, driveshafts, hubs, disks, Calipers, ARB and struts on.

driveshaft was effectively pushing engine side to side.
fitted 2.0 subframe and it fixed it. :rasp:

Wow thread dredge!

I fitted the 1.2 subframe no problems after drilling the missing holes, then this happened a few days later...

The subframe wasn't to blame though, the Escort was lol

Sounds like we cleared that one up... Lol

So could the phase 1 1.2's have a different subframe but phase 2 onwards are the
same?

Anyone got a tape measure :)

I'm sure I put one on my 182 thinking about it?

Right I'm gonna get a non sport phase 2 subframe and measure it!!!

Lets get this settled once and for all!! :D

Right... ive measured both!! there the same :D

The non sport oned will fit but are not double skinned and you need to drill a hole for the gearbox ;)

Done...
