Anyone done it?

Want something cheap to run for a while.

Still be fun remapped and on some coilovers?

I know a few people who have gone from 1*2's to the dci's and they've not got any complaints apart from the obvious lack of power but overall considering the tax is something like £35 a year and they do many many miles on a tank of diesel who wouldn't be happy :)

Obviously its a bug downgrade, but the DCI 80's are a very good little motor.

They're very torquey for a small car, I haven't driven one but as a passanger it suprised me how well it picked up when booted in 2nd and 3rd.

They're expensive for what they are though, the premium they command over a 1.2/4 isn't worth it for the amount you save unless you do big mileage. They have often got high miles on them too.

I know Martin172 went from a 172 to a Dci100, he seems pretty happy with it.

As for them commanding a high premium, not sure about that, there was one near me which was on a 53 plate with 22k on the clock going for 3995.

ive still got my 172 but had a dci65 and am now using a dci100 daily.

dci100 is awesome, i took the 172 out the other day and it didnt feel fast, no feeling of torque, thats why its up for sale to go jap.

dci 100 has the bigger turbo so is less responsive low down, but drives more like a petrol compaired to my 65, it pulls to 4.5k no problem where the 65 was dying by 3.5k

personally if i was getting another it would be an 80 as your getting that same smaller turbo as the 65 but with the bigger injectors and intercooler for more power.

the 100's gearbox is love or hate, wish it was a 6 speed but its only a 5, its a bit notchy and weird but im used to it now so i quite like it around town. the jc5 172 box on the 80 is better though!

the 1 bit of advice i will give you is, they handle more on par with a 172 than they do with a 1.2 they handle phenominally, and ive never had one with good tyres, about to order 4 pe2's for my 100 though, they have heavy weighted steering like the RS clios, stiffer suspension like the RS but still very cumfy to drive.

and 80 will remap to over 100bhp & over 170lbft of torque for about £300 which imo will hastle a lot of hot hatches mid range down a backroad. yes its never going to be fast, my dci hits 4.5k at 120mph so its never really going to go any faster, and straight line its always going to have a narrow power band giving poor 0-60 times and off the line times but mid range punch down a backroad with more torque than a 172 and it feels much faster.

personally id say my 100 when kicking its nuts in down a backroad feels like a 150bhp petrol car. i bullyed a VTS saxo all the way down a backroad lastnight in mine!

also ment to add, i paid £1800 for my dci65 with 140k miles (f**k all for a dci engine) in mint condition. their is bargains out there, had to pay £3500 for my 100 with 72k as they hold a premium being rare.

got about 5-10mpg more from the 65 to be honest though, due to the bigger turbo need to rev the 100 a bit more to get places. they do rely on the turbo being only 1.5's but 65/80's are fine as they are giving good boost at 1500rpm

Whast do people think of the MK3 dci's? The dci 86 I test drove felt gutless tbh, which is strange compared to how punchy the dci 80 MK2 is.

I know what you mean mate mk2 dci only weighs 995kg and I'm sure the mk3 is considerably more which is prabably the reason

i own a dci86 it does seem to go quite well :D when the mood takes but my idea of well an yours maybe different ;)
but i id guess the dci80 would feel a bit quicker an sharper compared to the mk3

i drove a dci106 an that felt mental

i think I'm the only dci86 mk3 on cs :D

the steering an body roll doesn't offer confidence to throw it about IMO

Get it mapped fella!

i had ideas to soft remap my dci86 i did look into a switcthable map for peace of mind but the outcome seemed that it couldnt be mapped this way

their are very few remaped mk3 dcis im aware of only one dci106

im still considering lowering it 35mm but im unsure how much of a diffrence it will make again lowered mk3 dcis are a bit rare

im also considering a new car

Not think 140k is abit, unassuringly high?

Ofcourse it's a diesel, but how far can they really go, people complain about creeks etc with cars with less than 70k..
