1.4rt air filter

  Clio Sport 172

hi all just wondered if any body could help.

i bought a green air filter for my 1.4 rt clio and it went on but it makes this hissing noise all the time i fought it was fine but i know others with clio 1.4s and theres just sounds normal.

can n e one help

Without hearing it its sounds (does that make sense?!?) like just the tickover hiss as the air goes in, nothing at all to worry about...

Infact as long as the filters on properly and all the relevent pipes etc( just the breather i think) you shoud have no problem.

Should make a rasping noise when you throttle it slighlty and the hiss should in theory not happen... just make sure you dont have any air leaks you may of dislodged a pipe or something off the manifold when you fitted it

To be honest it sounds fine, my 16v makes a dodgy noise at idle and a whistle at high revs, but my mates doesnt... they are all a bit different.

From memory there is one pipe that goes from the manifold into the filter, this one should be connected both ends althought itsonly a breather so its not going to make a noise really...

If the vacuum hoses were loose then the engine would run like a bag of poo or you wouldnt have any brakes(or very little) so it would be obvious...

Just think its the idle air going in, probably always done it, just been damped by the airbox...

I reckon its fine, anybody else??

check everythin over, however it could just be the noise of the air filter......

most of em do that, especially cotton gauze ones

The hissing noise normal, itll be coming from the inlet where the air filter sits, if you take the whole big black thing off youll see a small hole with a plate that opens when you rev the car, above that theres some sort of injector, thats what the hissing is.

In other words, its normal, youll notice it more because theres less to stop the noise coming out! If you fit a induction kit itll hiss like feck, I know, I have one, hissing like hell at around 4000k, below you can hardly hear it, and when its floored you cant hear it

Steve mate ive heard it, when youve gone tearing past, its just the sound of the induction kit! ill have a look at it tonight for you if you want? as ill be out and about. Come and hunt me down or give me a call mate
