1.6 vs. 1.6?

  polo, here for lols
ph1 1.6 rsi or a ph2 1.6 16v. which is the faster car and which is better to drive? sorry for the question that might seem obviouse to some of you, but i would just like to know.
thanks

  Clio 1.6 16v 2002
both exactly the same speed and bhp handling im not sure but cant be much different. id say ph2's more reliable and they can be made really quick mine beats focus st170's :)

  polo, here for lols
if you get a ph2 ive got a ktec cat back system you cn have ;)

not made any decisions yet, just summing up the options. i know i want a 1.6, i wanted a 106 gti but that is abit out of my price range, but saying that alot of the ph2s on PH are about the same price, definitely a lot to think about lol

106 gti is a completely dif car - much quicker cos its much lighter

yeh i know how different they are,i was just commenting on the price of the cars. i would assume the insurance would be alot more, another reason why that is a no no :nono: , but i do love them and hope to own one at some point, maybe before making the step up for a ph1 172. but for now i need to stick to a 1.6 which is not going to break the bank, both cost wise and insurane wise. cheers for your advice so far guys, keep it coming!!

My dad has a Mk2 Ph1 clio RSi, it's a 1.6 16v. Handles much better than my old Mk2 Ph2 Dynamique but has the same engine in I think

  Evo 6, E92 320d
Ph1 has lightweight bonnet and cable throttle, so overall i would assume its slightly quicker to 60 but only by tenths of a second.

i have a ph1 1.6 16v not the rsi and the only difference i know of between the 2 is mine don't have air con and the rsi does it's plenty quick enough and pulls in every gear jus try and get one where the cambelt has been done cos i had to take mine to renault cos no-one would do it lovely car tho

yeah normal ph1 1.6 16v has dual optics mine has electric sunroof windows and mirrors that are also heated too not bothered bout leather cos it doesn't appeal to me my aircon is opening the window lol

why did they only make the 1.6 16v from 03/1999 to 03/01/2000 then randomly change it to the rsi from the day after til they done the facelift and which one is rarer just out of interest?

So judging by that, they're both the same power output-wise, 5Kg difference in weight and both get to 60mph in the same time, the only difference really is the 1.6 16v is cheaper to insure and has a slightly bigger boot space. ;)

that is the ph2 1.6 16v they made a ph1 between march 99 and jan 00 aswell and from what i've seen they are usually £500 - £1000 cheaper than the rsi and they are pretty much identical in every way apart from the leather and aircon in the rsi

buy an old skool corsa gsi if you can find one. youll find an average one for about a grand. then in a years time spend £500 on a C20XE lump and go civic type r baiting.
much fun

not to keen on the corsas though tbh, but i do think they make great little sleepers when done up

Agree,

The GSi is a superb hatch, it was the cool car to have when I was in my late teens, back then you were lucky if you could afford the sri, like you say they can now be picked up for a song.

mine was awesome, an absolute sleeper. ran approx 170 brake, used to surprise a lot of people. slam it on its arse in standard form even and youll give pretty much anything a run for its money through the twisties,

Except a Cup, which dominates all.

as much as the rarity is a good thing, it does put the insurance and possably the tax (correct me if i am wrong?). tbh im just looking at upgrading to a 1.6 and i would rather have another clio

Tax has no baring on rarity >2001 engine size or 2001> emissions.

I think 12 months was £170 on my 2001 plate last year.

Insurance usually take into account cost of repair and current market value (unless you have an independant insurance valuation) the values of the RSi are really not much different to the 1.6 16v ph1.
I bought my RSi without even knowing it was rare, it was just the only car I could find that I liked and could afford at the time.

I'm assuming you had a C20XE on chortle boddies?

I had a nova van with the 2.0 16v lump and that owned most things on the road. Pulled 152bhp on well lane rollers

chortles all the way :)

mate has one with a C20LET running 350bhp. good god that things fast!!

sorry for going off subject btw
