  Renault Clio 1.4 RT
Hey guys, how u all doing?

Well, i'm finally thinking about getting rid of my 1996 1.4RT, and getting something faster. As none of the newer Clios float my boat (no offence) and i've got so many bits for a MK1, I was thinking about buying a valver. This won't be for a few months but to help me make up my mind can anyone give me any info/comments on them?

I'd like to know bhp/top end etc etc + what they're like to drive. Any problems with them that I should watch out for? I'm probably gonna be buying a cheapy as i'll be re-spraying it anyway.

Thanks

Rust is the biggest problem but you already know that.
Electrics can be problems.
Whats about a Wiloiams they cna be bought for not much more these days insurance is the only negative IMO over the valver.

Well, i know i'll get slated for saying this but here goes!!!!

I don't leave my cars standard if you know what i mean, and even I couldn't modify a Williams (they're just meant to be left aren't they!) Not ready to give up the modifying yet, maybe in a few years! Plus because of all my extras the insurance would be a lot more on the Williams.

Fair play to you for not modding a williams... thank goodness

Valver is 137 bhp... 0-60 in around late 7 seconds (7.7)

Fun fun fun

Good engines in the Valvers.

I think you can get them with leather interior too which is a bonus:D

I put two holes in my 96k gearbox casing, if that counts? :) (Williams 2)

The gearbox went on my old'un at 93k and i then 2.0'rd it but in all honesty i had the 1.8 lump from 83k and upto then i didnt really experience anything else aprt from the immob going tits up but that was really due to the pants clifford i had on it.

If i were you id probably by a mint 100k'er, most bits, cambelt, clutch, gear box, pumps etc will have been replaced prior to reaching this as they all seem to go after 90k.

Just make sure you get a gooden otherwise you will more than likely bee raping your pockets every 5 minutes.

Buying a cheap valver is a bad idea even if you're planning on spraying it

If its cheap then chances are the major jobs such as cambelt, clutch and box aren't going to be great which will result in high maintenance costs

I've owned two mint valvers neither of which have ever failed on me but at the same time i've spent good money on planned maintenance to avoid failure

Common rust areas are under the bottom of the boot lid, bottom of door and the rear arches
