10 % toluene in optimax

Anyone tried adding toluene to 98 ron fuel to increase ron? I think some scoob owners run 10 % toluene. I can get toluene dead cheap. Any ideas?

and the benefits of increasing RON/MON?

Just changing the properties of the fuel wont do much......start playing with yer engine!

eh?

use avgas boyo.

lol man if you want cheap hydrogen i can sort you out

So ur saying there is no difference between 95 RON fuel and 98 RON fuel @ benr? What about running 90 RON fuel then? Jap cars are meant to run 100 RON fuel thats what their engines are designed for (imported scoobs etc), as jap fuel is 100 RON. Adding toluene increases the RON (apparently, or simulates this) to allow normal performance from imports. I personallty would say 104 RON fuel would give better performance than 98. Am i wrong?

Ron is a stupid measurement really it uses some useless variable compression ratio engine and its not a very scientific test

Mon is a bit better but its still not that great.

its all about the way the fuel is blended and how much carbon it contains to break the chains of the fuel i would go into it but i can be assed.

Buy some avgas.

but jap cars are made to run on 100 ron fuel cus they have it over there. french/english cars arnt designed to run on it cus we dont have it so i cant see it helpin much

Course there is a diff, never said there wasnt.

What i did say is that its a waste of time. By running a higher octane gas you wont be increasing the size of the bang at all. The only real benefit is the change in combustability and the chance to advance ignition timing. Thus you get a pressure rise earlier. But go too far and youll start loosing power again because most of the burn is not under full compression, youll waste a large % pushing against a moving piston and then youll start putting strain on rods/cranks/pistons. You can only go so far in reality, and if you do do it, you cant run any other fuel as your ignition map will be set to run on 100+ fuel.

Most people fun higher octane fuels to stave off gremlins like pinking/det/knock and pre ig.
