100 Octane or 97 Octane?

  Clio Sport 2.0 mk2
Hi all!

I have re-mapped my Clio 172 with RS Tuner today. Tonight I will be rolling with a Honda Vtec 1.6 160hp so I want to make sure I will get the right octane and the best performance according to my Ron98 re-map by Rs Tuner.

Some says 100 octanes are not that good cause their burning time is longer than 97s.

By the way we don't have 98 Octanes in Turkey.

What do you guys suggest?

Dave its already mapped for 98. So I was worrying actually if the performance will go down if I use 97 Octanes. As I told we don't have 98 Octanes.

We only have 95, 97 and 100. And yes I also heard that 100 Octanes are 97 + artificial elements

97 will also mean you won't damage the engine if you can't get to a petrol station selling 100 :)

Performance difference between 98 and 97 will be tiny I reckon!

Yes I think 97 is the best choice. I don't think I will be feeling the diff though.

So I will be testing the RS Tuner Re-map tonight with a Vtec 1.6 160hp (168hp with its mods) and a typeR 2.0 200hp :)

I tried with the same typeR before Re-map and up to the 4 th gear I was 2 cars in the front ;)

Wish me luck!

Crap Type R driver in that case... when my 172 was standard it would only just stay par with my mates standard type R till 3rd then off he went... few mods later adding 20+bhp over a standard 172 i can happily keep with him through the end of 4th gear

Why crap driver? You also said that you kept running with the typeR up to 4th gear with your standart 172. You almost repeated me mate :)

Plus my car is not standard. I have a decat, 60mm widened exhaust pipes, SS muffler and a custom made cold air intake. And from today the RS Tuner Re-map ;)

Petrol doesnt degrade :S The higher octane number means more bigger hydrocarbon molecules too reduce knocking...

but the higher octane in 100octane petrol available at the pumps is achieved using additives so its not a genuine 100octane and does degrade
