100mph, what rpm!!

heya all!

With the worries of a possible slippin clutch in the cup (which i hope is not, just me drivin stoopid!) i was just wonderin what rpm peeps were hittin at !00mph? mine quite recently has been about 5500rpm i think, i cant remember if its always been like this? who knows what theirs is? or whos willin to find out? cheers.

Obviously cant help but my car does about 20mph per thousand, which would work out at 100mph @ 5000rpm

I hit the limiter lastnight at near 115MPH is fourth, It eas below 7k revs which suprised me (6850RPM approx).

Is this the norm?

your car must have been cold. The limiter should come in at 7250.

U shouldnt be hitting limiter in 5th until 140mph, 115 approx in 4th!

No my car was well warmed up, it only has just over 1k miles on it so maybe thats why.

mine tops out at the same as yours until warm, i reckon it takes about 15-20 mins before limiter goes to 7200... always has since i first hit limiter at abot 600 miles, so dont think its mileage related. try it again after a decent run.

Danny dont really understand what u mean coz u naturally drive in 5th at 100 but if ur at the limiter in 5th at 100 then there is something wrong?

But u can be at various RPMs at 100 in 4th or 5th - dont really get you?

mk2 172 which I assume has same ratios as the cup is

15.9mph/1000rpm in 4th giving mailto:111mph@7000rpm">111mph@7000rpm

20.6mph/1000rpm in 5th giving mailto:144mph@7000rpm">144mph@7000rpm

note that rpm limit is 7250 in 1,2,3 and 7000 in 4/5



edit - at 100mph its 4854rpm in 5th and 6289rpm in 5th

Cup does mailto:20.4mph@1000rpm">20.4mph@1000rpm in 5th.

This means 4,900rpm should get you to 100mph in theory.

My mk2 does about 4900 rpm at 100 - just checked earlier tonight but didnt want to look at rpm for too long cos was on a bend!!

Definately must be something up with your car or rev counter mate.

anyone think this could be due to slippin clutch? possibly slightly slippin in high revs?

When a clutch slips, its usually only for a second or so because when the clutch slips, it heats up very quickly which creates more friction. After this point the clutch wil usually grip. Its like youve got a rally spec final drive ratio of something.

Tested my car last night, at a 100 with the engin reasonably warm, mine sits at just over 4500rpm.

guys panic over!!!! phew! drove her last night and she sits on 4500rpm! cos its just around 4000 at 80! then goes up 20mph in 500rpm!

Either it was f**ked the other day or i was readin it wrong!

Right I did 100 MPH in my Clio Cup with approx 1250 miles on it ath the RPM was bang on 4800RPM.

Looking at the other Clios RPM it seems the Clio has higher gear ratios, unless mine is Fcuked.

Thats the same as mine Ben, Cups must have different gear ratios.

Mine was deffo bang on 4800 RPM

Danny... my cars going in to renault next week because my clutch is slipping at motorway speeds.... If I stick my foot down to overtake the revs shoot up and I dont go any faster... the cars only done 4000miles... I dont know why a brand new clutch would do this but for some reason it is.

The only thing you could maybe try is doing 4000rpm in fourth gear.... then floor it... and just watch the revs and speedo to make sure they are rising in proportion to each other... its noticable on mine that the revs jump up with no extra speed.
