12 months in the life of a Clio 182..

  Shhh
Had the car for nearly 12 months now. Car is a March 04 Racing Blue Clio 182 with both Cup packs and racing stripes.

Ive done 18,000miles since Dec 30th 04. Since then ive had multiple warranty claims, well infact 12 warranty claims... so you could say one a month. I worked it out that it has cost me £3000 in fuel @28mpg. Im on my 3rd set of of tyres on the front so thats another £370 (4x £93 ish). Also add another £300 for when mum put diesel in the car. :S

When i first got the car the speedo / cruise control was out of sync so the speedo was changed. The car was on about 12,000mile so the mileage went back to zero miles. The car is now on about 18,000 so thats 30,000miles in total in less than 2 years old from new. The car has probably been off the road for 2 months in total.

The faults ive had are..

Speedo / Cruise control out of sync
Engine mountings out of alignment
Alternator burning / smelling
Alternator cables damaged
STOP , ((!)) and SERV light when cornering
Rear washer inop
Car not starting (thanks mum :))
Battery change (not done yet as they not free to fit it)
Heater / Air Con not working
Buzz coming from Dash / Light area
Plastic thing over fuel tank broken
Steering pulling to the right (from new)
Blebbed tyres (from new)
Damaged alloy (from new)
Clunk with full lock on steering (wheel catching wheel arch / suspension)
Leaking right hand rear shock

Thats only part of the problem, i could list more if i looked through all the paperwork. After the year ive had with the car, makes me wonder if i should sell up and move on. Tho i must admit, its a pretty perfect car now that all the problems have been fixed. Suppose its one of them things for having one of the first few cars off the production line. The later cars get the modifications.

  cock mobile.
That is a lot of problems :(

Hope you stick with it now they are all sorted!!

I wouldn't really say it was the first of the production line, about 90% of it is a 172 which they had been making for a couple of years!

  Cup 172
Aounds like mine mate... 52 plate Cup, had it for a year its been in 21 times. Its been so bad theyve extended my warranty for 2 years...!

2 tyres for 93? What make?

My 172 was similar to that if not worse. 182 was spot on. Luck of the draw i reckon.

  Billabong
i have had my billabong for 2 years, not many problems but renault seem to be incapable of fixing the passenger seat so you can actually move it to let people in the back! been 7 times for just that and still not fixed. given up on them now, just use drivers seat instead :)

I was going to post something similar today as my Cup is exactly 2 years old tomorrow. I was going to say how wonderful its been, but sadly at 1yr and 364 days it seems to have broke today and is in with Renault! Thank god it wasn't 2yrs and 364 days is all I can say.

Still, its easily the most entertaining purchase I've ever made and I love it all the same.

  Shhh
Well this day last year was the day when i bought the damn thing. Cost me an absolute fortune and it has to go back in again as the exhausts are too close to the bumper and have been slapping the bumper causing them plastic trims to break. Thats shall be the 2nd set renault have fitted. The exhausts are shinny where they have been hitting the plastic. It needs a new battery and several other things doing such as the missing foam from the bonnet ran vent thingy. The alarm sensor on the bonnet is loose as they took the grill off and not put it right, and the engine cover squeaks real bad.

If i only did not live 32mile from the renault dealer id get it all fixed, the local renault dealer is a nissan dealer with a renault mechanic and only works a few days a week. They have no courtsey cars and no way of collecting the car. Nice to know im a valued customer, & of course, work are very nice in letting me get off early to ge the car fixed...not... and everytime i mention another fault i get told to sell the damn thing...

Anyone for a Clio 182...??

My 182Cup will be a year old at the end of January '06. I've had the temperature sensor issue fixed and a cracked cat replaced. Other than that, after almost 12 months and 16k miles, shes running better and quicker than ever :approve:

My 172 Cup was 2yrs old on 28 November. After 51k, I've had two starter-motors, three wiring looms, and a lot of love from Mike @ Rentech :D

No rattles, and no problems with anything else...apart from the fact that a quick trip to the local shops for milk often turns out taking 90mins and covers 60 or so miles
