1240kg!!

  Tangoed Works
Im not sure guys, the link from the RS Newsletter took me to the tech data. Upon looking back on it, I think this is still the weight of the regular 197. They have just started taking orders for the cup. Think they dont want them to get slated even before orders are placed.

  Black 197
i read somewhere, a magazine i think, its 20kgs lighter before you start speccing it up. so that would be 1220kgs

  Audi TT 3.2 V6
think my st170 weighs in at about 1240kg...fat git lol

clio must be alot bigger than it used to be to weigh in the same size as a focus.

  Saab 93 Aero Wagon
Hmmmm...172 Cup = 1050kgs (approx)

Seems as though 'light' these days really isn't. Then again i did sample a 2 Eleven yesterday.
250bhp in 650kgs....breathtaking. Quite literally when you don't wear a helmet!!

  GDI 227bhp ITB`d 172 cup
1240 kg, fat b*****d!! whats the power of the new cup`s? still 197 or abit more??

if it`s 197bhp than the power to weight ratio is 161.42 bhp, thats abit s**t imo

  top of the pyramid
There isnt the cups specs up yet, its still the 197s.

Dunno the weight of the cup but heard it has 205bhp

the new 197 Cup is a bit of a disappointment.

Its not really a "CUP" to be honest, seems more like a low spec 197.

The 172 cup and even the 182 cup appear to be much more focused cars. the new 197 just loses a few toys and gets the cup badge.

Got that wrong mate. The 197 cup is the same as the 182 cup.......... just trades on the 'real' 172 Cups name. The 172 was a proper attempt at removing weight, making the car more focused Removing 90kg's over the mk2 172 with thinner glass, ABS removal, xenon removal, lighter wheels, less sound insulation, revised steering/suspension etc. 182 was only 20kgs lighter, didn't even have lightweight alloys, or Renault sport steeringwheel. 197 cup has dynamique steering wheel, RUBBER PEDALS (no alloy race pedals etc) w**k. Its just a cheaper version, nothing to define it as a cup, as the chassis is available on a regular 197.

  Mk4 .:R32
haha thats stupid. looks like the people who buy the 197 cup will have to strip the weight themselves

Haters...

All i'd say is go along to your local stealer in your MK2, drive the 197 in whatever guise is available to drive and i can pretty much guarantee you'll change your view, oh and if you can get a good deal on an R27 go for it as standard to standard, it'll out handle and out brake the MK2 everyday of the week...

Recaro's and brembo's are just a small selling point, oh and standard vs standard engine note...MK3 all day..

So don't pass judgement untill you've actually driven or owned both cars..

I miss my 182 at times as it was more subtle and had a few more toys than my R27 but in terms of driving enjoyment and the feeling you get when driving it the 182 has to come a close 2nd, it certainly has more road presence than the 182 had..

The 197 cup is pretty gash IMO too, as reno have stripped a lot of equipment and hiked up the price, as i picked up my R27 for a good bit less than the cup from a main dealer and its better equipped..

My 2p's worth,

Alan.

ultimately, the cup will be available even cheaper than the R27 was/is.

Alan - as for the haterz on this site. it is a broken record mate, same s**t different day. i can't even be arsed to reply. whats the point? i know i have the best RS made (bar the R27;)) and thta the 197 owns the 172/182 chav chariot with ease innit. lol

  U/R 200
Its new Bigger heavier, out with old in with the new, i'll hang on till the Trophy version comes along (No doubt)

The Trophy will become an 'icon' as the 'last' light basic hot hatch - anything later will NEVER EVER recreate than mark 1 Golf GTi/205 1.9 GTi feel that the Trophy betters!

the NCAP 5 stars (probably become 6 star), EURO 5 Emissions, 56 airbags etc. will all kill the 'pocket rocket'

I wound't go as far as saying they are chav chariots tho i don't know how people can comment on the 197 range if they haven't even driven one..

I was going to buy a standard 197 from motorpoint but got my R27 from a main dealer for less than a grand more..

I also got 9k trade in on my pre reg'd 55 plate 182 with 20k on the clock, make note MK2 lads who are stuggling to shift their 172/182's privately at the moment, you may get more than you bargained for at a dealer for it..

Not directly at you matey..

But what people have to realise, times change, roads get busier, cars need to get safer and to get safer they get heavier..

My 197 feels alot more composed on the road, i didn't ever feel unsafe in my 182 tho i do feel safe(r) in my 197...

If i'd kept my 182 another say 2-3 months i would've easily lost a futher 800-1500£ on it possibly more??

It was also a personal thing to make a bit of coin by getting rid of the 182 instead of keeping it another year to put more mileage, more stone chips on and loose more money, my R27 is no.105 and at that point i thought there was tonnes left, but clearly not as you cant order them anymore IIRC so in a way it was worth the change just to have the satisfaction of having a limited edition...

  Black 197
hopefully they will make it a standard coulour choice now? they wont sell any cups, so all that white paint will be sat in a corner...... unless its all used up on r26's

haven`t drove a 197, but raced afew (killed them-when mine was in standard form) as for out braking n out handleing the mk2`s, i really can`t see it tbh, more weight behind them in the first place!

Talkin out your arse mate. The 197 a mate had for the weekend was a good yardstick. Against my 182 there was nothing in it, my at the time standard 182 *may* have just edged it, not by much, certainly not 'killed' as you put it. The 197 just needs stiiring of its gears more, which imo aint a bad thing as it adds to the enjoyment for me. My 182 is pretty even with my old cup (same mate has it, inlets GRP N, decat, Maxogen) we've had a few duals down some striaghts. I found its who ever presses the loud pedal firsts gets the slight advantage.
