15 v 16 tyres

  Ph1

Ive got the standard 15" OZ rims on at the mow 195 / 50 tyres [ mk1 172 ]

Would like to upgrade to 16" rims but Im a bit worried that Ill lose some performance due to the bigger wheels/ tyres having a slightly larger rolling radius. [ about 5mm ]

Has anyone gone from a 15 to 16" rims and noticed a slight drop in performance ? [ 17 do bog it down a lot ] I would probably use 195/45 16 tyres.

Also if I was to fit Cup offset wheels and run a 205/40 16 tyres instead of the 195/45 16s would these rub on the arches ?

[ the 205s are a closer match to the original 15s ]

I just dont want to lose any of this cars great performance for the sake of looks if you no what i mean.

Hope this makes sence its been a long day today!!!

Cheers

I went from 195/50/15s to 195/45/16s on my valver.

Noticed an ever so slight decrease in acceleration in say 1st, after that you really dont notice....

The mk2s use 16s and have near similar performance so you should be fine as long as you use whatever profile they do.

I bought my car 2nd hand with 205/45 16" (never had the 15") and the car is still plenty quick...

Ive also noticed that its quicker than every mk2 Ive gone up against, so couldnt have slowed me down that much
