16 Digit VIN

Hi

Just in the process of buying my 172 and when doing the checks it appears it has a 16 digit VIN.

If I compare it to other 172 VINs it looks like the “1” is missing after the “CB” near the start.

The V5, MOT and HPI systems all have the same 16 digit VIN so they all match.

Has anyone come across this before??

I’m not able lay eyes on the car to confirm what VIN is on the vehicle until the day I’m back from holiday, and it’s a 3 hour drive away.

Trying to get a photo of the vehicle VIN plate sent over but curious if anyone has seen this?

FJ53 OGP.

The seller just sent through pictures of the vehicle, all the original documentation etc and it has a 17 digit VIN with the 1 after CB.

Looks like the V5 is wrong which has then fed the other systems incorrectly.

Very surprised over 21 years no owner or MOT station has noticed this issue.

Mine starts VF1CB22xxxxxxxxx, if that's any use? On a 182 though.

Update: Seller spoke to DVLA and they said it’s an error on their part so if you send them photographic evidence of the vehicle VIN and fill out a form they’ll update the V5
