16's or 17's???

  Megane 225 Cup
Hey guys,

Im getting alloys in the next 2 weeks.

I am ordering them this sat from halfords (my mate gets discount) but i cant decide whether to get 16's or 17's

Im getting these fox evo 3's

http://www.potn.co.uk/-_c1_11_6007_p1007513.htm

Advise please.. im really not sure.. any advantages or disadvantages of both?

I mean 17's will probably look better but depends if it works.

And pics most appreciated.

Agreed. Not intending to cause offence, but you've not got a car that's gonna break any track lap records. So get what's gonna look best (17's) :D Plus 17's don't cost much more than 16's and neither do the tyres.

None taken, i know my car isnt the fastest on the block.. but it is out of my mates.

Although i am wondering will it affect my handleing? will it feel more sluggish with 17's or will the wheels rub against the arches or anything like that?

Thanks for the advice btw

just read the 1.4

17's then ;)

Quality! :D

17s with the * correct * offset will cause you no problems whatsoever, however, go for 16"s, they are a MUCH better allrounder, cheaper tyres (17" tyres are dearer), better handling, better acceleration, better ride.

that pug 1.4 might get a bit closer!

Cant be having that!

Thank for the advice, ill have to give it a think over, see what prices i can get the two sizes for.

I have recieved mixed advice here.. although im thinking that as my car is only a lowly 1.4 :D (and it will be till i can afford the insurance on a 172) I should go for the more pimped out look id get with 17's

Any reason why not mate? I've been looking at the fox evo 3's myself...are they poor quality?
John

No, nothing wrong with to quality to my knowledge.... Just for the price I would prefer something more eye please, thats just imo!

  cock mobile.
I wouldn't put FOX alloys near my car even if someone paid me!

And personally I'd go with 16s :)

  RB 200 Cup!
I'd say 16's would be your best bet - 17's are slightly too big (well they are where i live cos the roads are crap!) plus with 16's your still gonna be able to get good acceleration - 17's are better on clio 2.0 16v's

DITTO! Fox are as bad as ripspeed rims.

17's are best option for you, providin you lower it at least 60mm.

Whats wrong with FOX alloys? I've had a good few friends who have had them and not had any problems...anything i should be made aware of as to why they suck so much?

I didnt know that.. i havent seen those wheels on any car around.. in fact where i live the most common alloys are oz racing close spoked alloys :D

bu surely if i lower the car it will make it more likely to rub against the arches....??

I was thinking either 16's or 17's and lowering 35mm

No much conflicting advise here... will have to make my own mind up i spose

I cant see there being too much difference in acceleration between 16's and 17's i mean its only an inch after all....

Er, are you actually reading this thread? Plenty of advice I think. Bigger rims does not necessarily mean better handling, in fact it's the opposite in most cases. If you just want bling, go for 17s, no lowering really necessary. If you want best of both, go 16s and get your shocks/springs sorted. If you are still unsure, think 182 Cup. Lower / stiffer 16s. Nuff said.

Iv got 15's and 17's. Love them both for different reasons.

15's=Goooooooo, better accelaration, better handling etc

17's=Shooooow, they deffinatly look a million times better than the 15's but they are soley for looks, there isnt anything else thats a bonus about having them on

.... and I reckon Fox rims would look fine if that's what you want. 5 or 6 spokes would be my preference on a Clio, but f~ck what anyone else thinks, it's you that will be driving it.

Yep i read the whole thing, and liek i said there is a lot of conflicting advise.. some people saying 16's some 17's.... i think ill most likely go with 16's if i can get hold of them.. and have it lowered.

Excellent. Good choice that man. Now you're thinking with your head and not your c*ck. ;) It may not be lightening in a straight line, but it will out handle anything your mates have got.

  Megane 225 Cup
hehe... id rather have my hadling sorted than the looks on my car.. i think ill just lower it some as well...

People have said 60mm.. wont the tyres hit the top of the arches?

And it already out handles all my mates cars.. and will do until they stop buying peugeots and seats....

I seriously doubt it, especially with 16s. Most of the problems come when the car is under load i.e. body roll in cornering or braking. Lowering / stiffening the ride will solve that anyway. Get it lowered first then you'll know for sure.

17's - go
16's- go
15's - go

If you can't drive who cares! 17's look fantastic.

Mines lowered 35mm on 17's not a probably, No arch scrapping at all!! Just make sure you get right offset!
