17 inch rims

  Renault Clio 197 ('08)
Hey all

I've just purchased some 17 inch rims for my clio but I'm hesitant about the whole speedo thing. The guys at the store said it may throw it out a little but not by much at all. Is this true? I've bought some TSW PACE rims in 17inch with Yoko tyres. Hopefully u guys aren't gonna tell me I've made a mistake!!!!
Any comments would be appareicated. Cheers!

It will throw it away a bit, ie, if our sppedo shows you are doing 60mph you would effectivly be going at about 64-65mph. Vince

  A well built VW
you'll not really notice it that much need to drop a gear now and then when before you didnt have to but not often, but the tramlining thats a different matter all the fcukin time

Glad someone mentioned lowering - how easy is it to do yourself? My friend at work said it's really quite easy to do and quite cheap since the spring kits don't cost loads. Is this all true? If I'm putting 17's on - how much do u recommend lowering by? And if I lower it, will it mean I can't have as much weight in the back seats etc???

No no...1-2mph max deferrment between 60-70 mph; By changing from 15's-17's.

Yeah it shouldn't make to much difference, i went from 15's to 19's on my car and can still drive through speed cameras with the speedo showing 70 with no concerns, it really is a minimal difference

yip, i went from 14's to 17's, the speedo is 'out' by about 3mph, but in actual fact when compared to the speed shown on the gps, its pretty much spot on now!

i believe you can have it recalibrated though if it bothers you that much, i havent done it on mine as it gives you a couple of mph under what your doing so its good for speed cameras

It depends entirely on the size of tyres you had and now have fitted. To be sure you can compare the rolling radii on any of the online tyre computers.

Ok I've got the rims! And they look Huuuuggge compared to what I got on! Quite excited really! Don't think I'm going to put them on til spring/summer tho but would like to test fit them now. I'm a virgin to adding alloy wheels so what's to know? I got a set of bolts and a spigot ring for each - which way around and where does the ring exactly go? And can I use my old bolts? As one of the renault ones is a security one isn't it?

Its easy peasy..

Flat side of the spigot ring goes against the hub.. put them in each wheel before fitment... are they directional tyres?

The tyres are Yoko's but lookin at them I can't see no rotation arrow or anything so I'm guessing they're universal? I'll triple check tho. Do I use the new bolts or old ones? And is that all I need to do?

That should be it then.. bolts shouldnt matter too much unless your have spacers etc..
