172 cup gear selection

Morning all,
All of a sudden, my 172 cup (03) has decided it doesn't want to select gears very easily.
All go in fine with the engine, off, and there's drive when they are selected, but every gear crunches pretty badly. Clutch modulates fine in terms of pulling off/feathering etc.
It's almost like the clutch has gone out of adjustment, except it's done it overnight (was fine yesterday)
Is there something common that goes on these? They are cable, right? (I've never looked  ) It's always felt a bit graunchy, so I'm wondering if one of the cable strands has snapped.
If it were hydraulic, I'd be looking at a leaky slave/master.

It's suddenly gone in all gears though - surely all synchros wouldn't suddenly give up the ghost? I'm thinking it has to be clutch related, surely?

Just trying to find photos of any adjustment - don't really want to get under it in the work car park in shirt and trousers! :D

Balls. Just found that. I'll try the resetting of the adjustment tip that I've found, but I don't hold out much hope. I'm guessing new clutch time? The box has always been noisy, but it seems a bit odd for it to suddenly go in non spectacular fashion, especially as the noise sounds like layshaft bearing, which IME tend to just get noisier over time?

Right, just been to have a look - not sure how to tell if the ratchet mech is buggered?
Got a colleague to depress the clutch - the cable moves about 30-35mm or so at the clutch pivot - does that sound right?

Hehe, yup, that's me :)

Problem solved - appears the self adjusting mech had self adjusted. I tried the 'reset' procedure found on here - disconnect cable at box, pull hard, push pedal to floor, pull cable at box end, reconnect, pump pedal, and it's worked.

I'm very suspicious as to why this happened though, got a feeling the ratchet mech doesn't have much life left.
