172 cup seat weight + other seat Q`s

can anyone tell me the weight of the 172 cup (without airbags obviously) need to know as it will influence my choice of recliner.

also do you need recliners in order to get people in the back of the clio or can you move the chair further forward than OEM seats so people can clamber in th back ??

thing is buckets are like 8kg each ! but the lightest recliner (resonably price that is) i can find is 14-15kgs.

how do you get aftermarket seats in ? ive just bought a cup and i find the high driving posision better than in the 172 for some reason.. still i think it could do with being around 3-4cms lower than standard. do i need custom subframes or do these compromise safety are they as rigid as standard.. etc

ive seen some good prices Cobra opus a £273 per seat not bad at all and they seem to be the lightest recliner that Cobra make at 12.8Kgs each.

not the best looking seat, but as long as its comfortable and is lighter im not too bothered about absolute looks. still with these two i would make around an 18kg weigh saving.. unless the subframes weigh loads and without subframes the standard cup seats are only say around 18kgs then id only make a 10kg saving.

cant get bucket as people need to get in the back 1once in a blue moon but its enough to have the GF whinge at me so they have to recline.

thing is at 13kgs these weigh the same (well 0.2 heavier than the opus but big deal)

I have been looking at getting a lower seat position but still being able to get in the back.

If you are not bothered about the looks and mainly drive the car on your own I think a fixed bucket in the drivers side and leave the passenger seat as is will be the option I will go for.

Cobra do a custom subframe that allows the seat to go lower. Loony has them in his car.

With only having to buy one seat means your budget will stretch further check out

You will be able to get one of these, side mounts and subframe for less then £400.

Weight wise for both seats approx

standard = 44kg

1fixed +standard = 30.5kg

2 recliners = 29kg

based on cobra mounts and subframes being approx 1.5kg (a guess??)

so the least weight comes from two recliners but twin recliners will cost more.

yes 2 recliners is the lightest option but I was useing it to illustrate that the difference is very small only 1.5kg less then the fixed option. Plus the fixed back seat would be a more supportive race style seat for less money.

Custom subframe (for fixed seat lower position) is £60 and steel sidemounts £45 and Suzuka is £280 retail prices.

so two cobra opus + subframe and side mounts = £756

one bucket + passenger same weight as x 2 recliners = £385 better support for going fast.

= £371 difference !

ahh i see you point now. not sure but i think a lower bucket seat on its own would look fairly daft from the passengers side with you getting more involved than they are as your closer to the ground and it seems faster.

why dont you just get 2 bucket seat and save yourself atleast an extra 10kgs again and dont worry bout ppl getting in the back

as mentioned i cant. sometimes i have to get some mates in the back to travel just a few miles from village to town so its needed for those times when we cant get a lift. secondly if my GFs nan needs hospital i need to be able to seat at least three.

I agree if you often have a passenger it is not the best idea but I mainly drive the car on my own, although do need the option of getting in the back.

It would be purely for a lower better supported drivers seating position for me.

if you had twin buckets would it be possible to move the passenger seat really far forward as there is no steering column and more room so people could squeeze in the back ?



if not it looks like twin recliners for me. bucket seats usually look mint but there probably uncomfy over long distance and obviously you cant get in the back.

What about 1 fixed seat and remove the passenger seat (DONT REPLACE IT)leaving access to the rear so you could seat 4 at a push and it would be the lightest option
