172 cup timing belt price

Hi, popped into renault for a price for my 172 cup (without air-con) timing belt change. Also got a price including water pump to be safe. This is the print off i got,

Labour Total - £230.11
Parts Total - £310.67
Total - £540.79

CORE PLUG LA - £5.93
PLUG LA - £3.18
WATER PUMP - £52.64
KIT TIMING - £122.70
ACESS BELT KIT - £100.46
COOLANT TYPE D 2L - £8.10
COOLANT TYPE D 5L - £17.66



Also got a price for a service while it was in, i thought they would have included that but apparently not.


Labour total - £146.74
Parts total - £169.27
Total - £316.01

SPARK PLUG J66 - £18.89 - 4 - £75.58
FILTER - £17.15
WASHER - £1.67
FILTER OIL - £7.95
ACEA A3/B4 GRADE 5W-40 - £13.80 - 4.85 - £66.93

The guy said he could discount the service and do it for £250.

So overall its going to cost me £790.79!! What do you guys think?

I actually think thats a pretty good price for a dealer if you read whats actually included

I'd expect that to be £650ish+ at a indpendant.

Expensive, for a start thats an AC aux belt kit, your belt is £11, no tensioners.

We do a gates timing belt kit, renault aux belt, fitted inc labour for £237.98.

That does not include a water pump though!! imo, they very rarely cause any problems on the 172, we just inspect them!

well the guy said that was 25% discount on the work. (some promotion??) i was just confused when he slapped another 250 on for a service. work needs to be done so it will prob go in on jan, just looking for some views on it

Didn't read the cup bit!

Yeah is quite abit then.

Is coolant change part of the cambelt job?

no the coolant would be changed when they strip out the water pump.
just thought it was a good idea to do the water pump as it was stripped down anyway. think i heard that on here somewhere lol

All those service parts you could do yourself easily and save about £150. Depends how bothered you are about the SH.

The actual belt change excluding waterpump works out about £490.

Best way is to compare, get a quote from a specialist including pump and genuine belts then you can see the difference and decide if its worth a road trip.
