172 Dials

Am looking to fit the 172 dial kit onto my mk 2 clio and just need final clarification that they will fit okay as spoke to the guy this avo can anyone clear this up for me cheers:confused:

would like the answer to this one as well... ive got a set of 172 dials sitting in my room.. going to have a go at changing the colours before puttin them in though..

isnt the only difference that they go higher up on rpms etc? it will be giving u wrong read outs!? but i do think they will fit... unsure why u would do this..

does anyone know if the dials carry the details of mileage etc, or do they just fit in and read it from the ECU? (i.e if you have a 172 MK2 with incorrect dials, with 30K on the clock, and then you go and buy a set of proper 172 MK2 dials from another 172 and put them straight in, would they work?

as far as I know, its stored in the ECU, the reason im changing them is that I got one of the very first facelifts and theres a certain element of styling missing lol... e.g. it still has the orange repeaters, the interior trim is diff, etc

the dials i got have the blue metallic surround round the dials...

i sourced a 172 dialset for my 172 import for £100, just spoke to the guy and asked him how they would work, does the mileage come from the ECU or the clocks? he said that if i were to change the dial sets over i would get the mileage from the donor car?!? Hence i didnt order them. Does anyone know for definate if this is the case? (I personally think the info comes from the ECU and is not stored in the dialset)?

id assume itd be the ECU due to legal issues with clocking etc as it would be all to easy to replace the dials on a 172 thats done 500k with one just a few months old etc ??

ill try changing mine over as soon as I get a chance and let you know what the outcome is... and as for them coming from a cup, im not sure, i thought the dials where the same on 172s and CUPs also got a set of metal door handles ( interior ones ) at the same time if that identifies in anyway if its a 172 or cup ??

they shouldnt give the wrong readout, although the rev range is different, when testing the dash according the dialogys, voltage X1 is applied to get Y 1rpm, voltage X2 is applied to get Y2 RPM etc, and its the same values across the model range, therefore the signal sent to a 1.2 dash saying 3000rpm / 65mph for example, would still show 3000rpm / 65mph on the 172 dash unit...

The dash dials bit holds the milage so swopping will get the milage from the doner car.

Not sure about the readouts I think they will work ie 5k rpm will read 5k rpm on 172 or normal dash.
