172 mk1 Air filter change

Whats the easiest way to do it? cant get the b*****d top off the airbox, although i've only had a quick go at it.

Easy to do Take the 2 airfeeds off the box, just twist and pull. Then undo the 2 jubilee clips (the one on the throttle body and the other 1 above the box) then take the pipe off and take it out then take the box out and change it over. Much easier changing it with the box out of the engine. With the box it has 4 metal clips holding the top on, just take them off and the top should come straight off to get the filter out.

got to that stage, and the f**king rivets popped out of the airbox. so looks like i now need to spend another 70quid on a new airbox lol

must be a cheap maxogen somewhere :evil:

Lol that happened to me once. It can be fixed just need to lever both rivets up a little with a screw driver and push the plastic bit back in

leave black case for lower the feed with the rivits off... i did, free'd up some air and gave it a bit more of a "raw"

its the bottom feed facing the arch so hot air will not be a problem

Last time I took mine apart I removed 2 layers of knuckle skin!

I had all mine apart in 10 minutes yesterday found a dead bee inside the filter box too!

I'm at work, so not yet. think i'm gonna end up sawing the feed off lol

I just take the one part off, the section with the two jubilee clips, lever it off with an old blunt screwdriver. It's enough space, just about, to get the top off the airbox and the filter out. Not too tricky really, but makes your back ache a bit!

thanks for the help everyone, however i'm a wimp and have bought a maxogen so wont need to do this now lol
