172 not running well, suddenly very noisy

  None
Alright guys,

Well I've had my 172 for nearly a year now - have recently had dephaser / belts done, and a full service along with premium oil. Everything was running well until recently - it seems as if the car has suddenly got a lot louder?! I've established that at ~80mph on the speedo (which equates to ~75mph on GPS) the car is unbearably loud. It's not road noise either, it's all engine noise - the revs will be sitting at between 2-3krpm in 5th, and it's this constant drone sound (kinda mid-range noise).
Also I've noticed that it's idling a bit worse too in traffic - i.e. a bit more juddery than usual.

Please note I've recently cleaned the throttle body too - temps are fine, fuel is fine, and it doesn't seem to be driveshaft. Literally the sound is only there at that speed.
Also noticed it just sounds a bit sh*t recently - I know these cars aren't exactly luxury but I mean seriously it's just the worst sound ever, doesn't fill me with much confidence...
Only thing I can really attribute it to would be that 'cold snap' we had a few weeks ago.

Btw car has done ~70k miles.

Any thoughts?

Have you checked the exhaust for leaks/cracks, I had similar issues when my cat join was leaking.

Ah yeah good shout, will get that checked - reckon it could be lambda sensor? Heard mention of that needing replacing for ppl
Strangely MPH are fine though (~35mpg)

sounds more like a wheel bearing noise buddy. when your next driving (if you havnt already sorted it already) just steer left to right gently at speed (like your driving pissed lol) and see if it get louder then quieter. if it does, its a wheel bearing and if its louder when turning right then its the left side and if its louder turning left then its your right side

all the best:)
