does it lye down flat? or does it stick up a little?

Sticks up a little, but not a lot.

If you put some weight on it it ends up flat. But you also probably end up with the leather crumpled in places.

It would have been nice if they'd tried a bit harder to design it so you had a flat surface when the seat is folded. Instead of the boot opening with latch sticking up, then a drop down to the cover over the spare wheel, then the mounting that holds the rear seatback then the seatback itself. But I guess you can't expect too much in a tarted-up economy car.
