172 rough idle

Hi,

My girlfriend has just bought a 3 year old 172, but at idle the exhaust sounds quite juddery. Weve had it checked for holes, but it all looks ok. Apparantly it might be something to do with the engine management cutting emissions at low revs. Does anyone have any experience of this?

yes they all do it mate, its to do with keeping emmissions low when the engines cold.

When cold they can idle quite poorly, which is to do with the ECU programming to meet emissions levels. When warm it should be smoother but still wont be silky smooth due to the nature of the cams.

Get a SS exhaust and decat and the idle sounds wicked.
