172 Service

I just had my car serviced yesterday in Basingstoke, they tried to charge me £205 for the 12k service. It seemed a lot to me, I am sure I have heard people mention figures a lot lower? I complained and they knocked £20 off, but they kept saying it is expensive because it is a 2 year service aswell as a 12k service. This sounds absolute rubbish to me, can anyone tell me if this is a high price.

To be honest they did a sh1t job anyway, I though they would have looked round the car to see if anything else needed fixing. One of the windscreen wipers is hanging off but they failed to spot it, and this is on the service schedule as checked. I didnt fix it because I presumed they would.

I am going to complain but Id like to get an idea of average cost for a 12k service first.

I got my 24K (minor) done at a main dealer and it cost about the same as that.

I had my major 36k done at a Renault approved dealer and it was £170 ish. That was just north of Southampton so not too far from Basingstoke.

About £170 for the 12k service out here in the countryside. Id expect to pay a bit more in the prosperous south..

I think mine was around the £185 mark (thought it was at 10k/12months not 12k/24mnths) - this was at the big renault dealer in west london. slightly more than others have quoted but i put that down to it being london. they even spotted and replaced my exhaust center section due to rattling (i didnt even hear it)

They didnt seem to spot anything on mine, broken wiper, broken headlight washer. Mind you they tried to tell me it was more expensive because it was a cup........they are muppets.

When I first rang up to book it in, the women didnt believe me that it needed servicing, she said I needed to wait until 18k.

I paid £105 for 12k service so £205 seems a bit high to me!

Chogg i know how you feel mate ! spok to renault worthing and they didnt even know what the 172 is ? !!

they also told me it didnt need servicing until 18,000 ! thats after they had to check and ring me back as they knew nothing about the 172 !

I got my parts from renault and got the service done at my trusted mechanic with pollen filter all for £116 inc vat.

Would never trust a main dealer - they are rip off merchants (most) that ive experienced !

Wont the last two years of the three years warranty be lost. Im sure it says that to qualify for the last two years the car must be serviced by amain dealer as it is a dealer warrantly???

A common misconception is that you have to go to a main delaer.. there was a big thing about it on watchdog (i think) they phoned round loads of dealers and only one of them got it right... a volvo dealer, NO you dont have to have it serviced at a main delear, but it has to be serviced to the same standards as a main delear would do (eg. no standards at all) using either genuine renault parts, or parts which meet or exceed renaults specifications.

Id heard u had to have it serviced with the main dealer for the first yr only to keep ur warranty but then they say 12000 or two yrs so no good anyway unless u do 12 in ur first yr

Yes, it was a main dealer. And it turned out that the £130 quoted was miss quoted by a new member of staff!!!

They charged me £170 gave me a free 1l bottle of oil thou (!) they r very friendly and did a good quick job, Ill give them that!!!

AND once again, even after promising me that they would get it right, ordered the wrong part ....only wanted a washer ball for fecks sake!!!! Thats twice now...they have promised one for wed and insist that they do not have to remove the bumper to fit it.......mmmmm

Now Ive got me Renault stamp in the book to get the warrenty, Ill look elsewhere for the next service.

DEALERS ARE GOING TO SAY THAT ARENT THEY? They dont make much profit on sales so they hope to make loads on services and spares etc, so if people see sense and get their cars serviced at good local garages, where the costs are cheaper but the work more thorough, they dont have all those "targets to meet" like main dealers, they are losing out all round and there shoulnt be any problems if the garage uses the genuine Renault parts

£129 from dixon renault in Barnsley,12000k service pretty good i thought,all new bits,checked car over,told me front tyres a bit worn *cough* etc.took it in at 1pm no appointment,picked it up 3.30pm that afternoon.

Shows how busy/good they are Cerbera4.5 if you can get in on the spur of the moment! Our local garage is so busy because of its reliability and honesty etc, that customers book about two weeks ahead just to make sure they get their cars done by them.

id just bought the car and thought id best take it to renault dealer for its first stamp etc,i was quite pleased with the results,but ill take it to a independant renault specialist next time.isnt it nice when you can take your car to a local garage and your car doesnt sound like a tractor or run like someones put diesel in it after you take it in.happend to me before cars worse when it comes out than it was when it went in..muppets!

£167 here in sunny chester for the 12K one, they seem ok, took my car in for the normal exhaust rattle - and they know about it with the 172 and ordered my a new one. That was the good point, the bad was they dented the drivers door while looking at the car.

Its going in to have the dent and service done
