172 track car

So after yesterday with a mixture of driving one and seeing how others getting on I'm contemplating getting something. Nothing wrong with mine, performed well, no real faults apart from possible rear pads or a caliper binding it was fine. Girlfriend commented the difference in my reaction when I got out of the Clio with a huge smile. Anyway for something stripped with a cage etc what sort of money should I be looking to pay? I'm thinking around 2k for a nice one?

Depends on the make of cage and the bits and bobs its got. If its a show cage, then £2k is reasonable. But that will be useless on track and more dangerous than no cage.

Reality is, any decent caged track car is likely to be broken, as its worth more in parts than people will pay for it whole. That's the problem you will face.

I'd look for a mechanically sound, but tatty paint work 172 totally standard, then strip it yourself and if you really want then get a decent cage put in yourself. Cage is one of the last things I'd do though. Plenty of cheaper, smaller mods that will help it perform on track IMO.

yeah i have thought that. Ive been nosing at the other usual options too, 106, 205 etc, would prefer it to be a clio though.

Im developing a need for a 205.

Stick with the Clios!
I've had 9 205's (still got a 1.9 on the drive) and there is no way I would go back to using one as a road rally / track / sprint / hillclimb toy after having the Clio.
