172 wheel centre cap problem

  Renault Clio MK4 RS
Hi all,

Got a set of 172 alloys recently for £120 and they are in ok condition for the price.

They came with centre caps but no screws. I ordered some off ebay last week and they came today.

I could get 3 of them on, but the last one just wont go on. Ive tried using a different screw to see if its the screw and even a different centre cap to see if its that but no luck. I tried with just a screw and no centre cap to see if the threads are gone on the alloy but it screws in perfectly fine. So ive got 3 alloys with centre caps on and 1 without...

Anyone had this problem? and any idea why it wont go on?

Sounds like its been cross threaded.

Have you tried your spare wheel? You can then use the one with the knackered screw hole as a spare as it won't matter.

Noo :/ tried just the screw on its own to see if the threads had gone but it screwed in fine? :/

If your screw goes in the wheel's thread without the centre cap, then I would presume the problem is the centre cap. Does it fit flush to the wheel before you put the screw in?

Yeah it sits fine like the others which is very odd :/ unsure as to why the screw will screw in fine, but when i try to screw it in with the cap it wont

Sorted this now.

I think it was that the screw wasnt reaching the alloy(just). Which is peculiar since i bought them off ebay and 3 of them fitted fine and the other 1 didnt yet they were all the same size?
I found a different bolt in my shed which isnt the best looking but its got the centre cap on and works getting it on and off and i prefer it with a centre cap on than off!
