172 wheel spacers?

  172, Westfield
I have a MK1 172 with cup turinis and H&R coilovers. I have spent a fair bit of money on the looks and handling of the car but I cant help but feel unhappy with how the wheels sit in the front arch. They just dont fill the arch enough(not even like the cup) and I wondered what peoples views on spacers were. I dont want to do anything dangerous or upset the handling or increase tyre wear but feel that even 5mm spacers would help.
Opinions would be creatly appreciated? I think I remember reading Carbon Copy had Eibach pro spacers fitted but that was before he had turinis fitted?

been said before that 5mm spacers can vastly improve handling

they're already the wrong offset though arent they? (cups an ET37 i thought, mk1 172 is 45 or similar)

Yes they are 37.5 I think but it doesnt push them out enough. If it will cause problems then I will leave it!

If I fit them I would do it correctly and use longer bolts but I have heard so many things about them that I am unsure as to whether they are safe and whether they cause increased trye wear or unstable handling!
