17s and valver wings

I was wondering why exactly you need valver wings with 17s on a 1.4rt. Does the wheel stick out sideways or does just rub on the arch lining with the standard rt wings? Thanks, Sam

Daz, still talking bout my old car lol....

You really need valver arches as there plastic. If it rubs on plastic it causes a lot less damage then it does if it rubs on metal. Trust me
