In a recent question about the top of the front damper rod fouling the suspension turret on full lock it was stated that this was confined to earlier cars. Please take a look at
www.cliotrophy.co.uk where you will find lots of threads about this issue, and the Trophy is the latest incarnation of the 172/182, is it not ? My Trophy makes a grinding/clunking sound on full lock and so do many others. However, I have been informed that the "mod" for this is for the service department to attack the turret with an angle grinder. Is this true ? If so, i am a little reluctant to have this done on a limited edition car
Allen Collen respondsHi there, although I have stated that the incident was more prevalent on the early cars it does not mean that it cannot be applied to the later cars, if this is the cause. For me the suspension turret design has not changed since the introduction of the P2 car, and all other geometric evolutions have been achieved using various suspension configuration improvements. Therefore with a circular turret, under given conditions it is possible for contact to take place between the top strut mounting and the back of the damper housing. A proven and approved repair method is documented, which is to re-profile the turret in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. If this is not acceptable please contact Renault Customer Services. Regards,as taken from renaultsport.co.uk panel of experts question
