182 conversion questions

  Sunflower PH1
Hi i've bought a damaged 1.6 rsi on an x reg and i'm doing a 182 conversion in the next few weeks, whilst its off the road while i repair the damage i want to fit a 182 engine & box etc.

luckily i have access to the parts as i work in a large breakers and we currently have two 2004 182's and a 2003 172 cup all pretty much complete :rasp: ,i'm more interested in 1 of the 182's for the donor as its a low 17k car with rear damage,i'll use all the front and rear running gear and brakes from the 182 but as i've never tried yet i'm very unsure of exactly how much electrical to swap over to make it good and reliable, also the fly by wire set up and the fact its going into a 2000 mk2 clio.

I'm no stranger to the tools but need a point in the right direction as far as how much to remove from the donor and what options/avenues for the mounts and electrics etc,any/all help is appriciated and i look forward to being a regular forum user as i'm turning french from the vauxhalls, thanks

the difference between the engines is the exhaust manifold.
172 - 4>1
182 - 4>2>1

That and a remap gives 10bhp

So presumably i could use the engine/box from the 182 as i know more about the mileage etc and run it on the 172 wiring and ecu etc, maybe use the 182 exhaust manifold as an upgrade too,i appreciate youve all probably heard these questions loads of times before but i'm deadly serious and you cant beat the experience of those who have done it or seen it before, thanks

^thats about right

use the alternator setup from the 172 cup, much better for power

any questions feel free to call me, i've done the conversion 07769712624

So if i was to use this engine/box as i say could i get an early 172 type throttle body(cable type) and engine loom, ecu, key and transponder and fit it and run it on my own dash loom etc to save on all the headaches of wiring behind the dash, electric pedal etc ?,if so i'll probably hunt around until i find these parts from the one car, thanks

Ok great thats what i'll do then as i want to keep the car as a mk2 inside aswell,i take it i'd need the engine loom aswell or can i plug the ecu into the 2004 engine loom, thanks

  Lionel Richie
you have to remove your existing dash loom and your existing engine loom and replace them both with the looms from the donor car

here's a list of the stuff you need from the 172/182

engine and box
engine loom
dash loom
ecu
uch
decoder ring
key
chassis number from donor car (just incase)

Ok i have all this from the 04 182,i would really like to use my own dash so only way to do this is to get early 172 parts as you say and i can use my own dash and the 182 engine/box,is it possible to keep my mk2 dash using all 182 stuff or is changing the plugs etc behind dash a nightmare, thanks
