Excessive play in lower suspension ball joint. I had this, and it failed an MOT because of it. Replaced the lower suspension ball joint and it was gone.

I had it fitted by a local garage who charged about 30-45 minutes labour, I can't remember how much it was exactly.

I don't know how serious it is, but apparently enough to fail an MOT.
Bear in mind that it could be something else, just in my case it was the lower ball joint (on the offside I think mine was). Would be worth taking to a garage to get checked out.
