182 Engine cleaning!!!

  RS Clio 182
Does anyone have any tips on engine cleaning??? Ive bought my engine cleaner `auto glym` but apprehensive to do anything yet as I know certain components need to be covered.

Best doing a search lad, and the guide section is also good.

Hosing/pressure washers are dangerous and not required. Get some good all purpose foaming cleaner, like Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner (APC) or Auto Glym Engine and Machine Cleaner. Scrubbing brush and a damp cloth is all you will need. Then products to seal the finish on the plastics. Metal/paintwork treat as you would the outside of the car, i.e. polish like Auto Glym Super Resin Polish (AG SRP) then seal.

Yeh I have bought auto glym engine cleaner, might look at getting that sealer you mentioned first though before I do anything.

a sealant on an engine? have a word!

spray the stuff on, scrub it and a small stream of water to get rid. youll never get it sparkly to be honest unless its polished up or blasted.

Polish + sealent = not as difficult to clean next time round . . . ? Not sure why that doesn't make sense . . . ?

Edit; I'm talking about the engine bay, that may be the wrong end of the stick

thats probably it, i was imagining you clean a block with some SRP and sealing it up nicely or something.

Steer clear of jet washing. Could be more trouble than its worth. I use a damp (not dripping) sponge. Wipe round the dirty areas (clean sponge as you go). Then before it dries i go over it with a microfibre (use old ones as the never come clean again). Then dress everything with autoglym bumper care. Takes about 30min tops if you do it on a regular basis (once every couple of months). Easy! :D
