I recorded the noise earlier today but not sure what's causing it.. I know there's a million and 1 threads about this but I'm still not sure. It's only does it when it's up to temp.
You're correct about it coming up a million times I'm afraid - thats the dephaser pulley rattling away. Not a problem as such, folk have run them like that for a long time - don't suppose you're due a timing belt change in the near future?
yeah that happens, they probably wont have a clue about it being a problem. My dephaser wasn't changed either, but (for now at least) I'm getting away with it!
What's causing the belt to make that noise then? Because the belt has been changed, but not done right by the looks of it.. So is it a tensioning issue? I wouldn't but an old stretched belt under tension
Pretty annoyed about it actually as I bought the car under the impression it didn't need doing.. At the time I wasn't aware it only made the noise when up to temp as it doesn't do it when cold so when buying I thought it was fine. Chalk it down to experience I guess, but who has £600 going spare, especially at Christmas..
Is it the aux belt kit I need? Birchdown offering Renault timing belt kit with Renault auxiliary belt kit including cam seals £459.00... Isn't this it or am I missing something..? Thanks
Was the previous belt and dephaser change documented? If not, never believe the seller and you've probably learnt this lesson now - You need the belts and dephaser pulley replacing i'm afraid which we do for £597 inclusive of VAT and use genuine Renault parts, seals entirely.
Warning: sellers tell lies!!! I always prefer to buy and sell cars for less with them needing belts unless I can confirm a specialist I trust has done them.
There previous documented change is at 72k, the car is now on 79k. It wasn't however carried out by a specialist which at the time I didn't know it should have been. Live and learn and all that.
Mick, I've just been on your site this morning but you're rather far from me unfortunately.
That's fine chap, you don't have to come to me lol
Did the paperwork for the 72k job specifically state it had the dephaser replaced though? If so, what is the date as all parts sold, by law, come with 12 months warranty
