You cant do any insurance freindly work,i admit ive got engine work done myself but if you have a good enough accident or whatever the engine will be checked,a kid on the rtoc his 5 raider set on fire on the hard shoulder and his nos bottle blew up insurance had the car in checked it over and he never got a penny and a £4500 re-surface bill for the road

some people will say that you tell the insurance company nothing.
But in my opinion thats the complete wrong thing to do.
I renewed my insurance at the beginning of June&told them i was getting a cat-back system fitted plus induction kit, they wanted to know roughly in hp i was to gain from this which i told them i was unsure.
After these mods and an ECU Chip replacement i have seen results figures of a good 10bhp extra.
Also recently had my oil changed over to fully synthetic and i am shocked with how well my car now runs. Alround performance id say is amazing for what littleive actually spent on mods.

i ALWAYS do both parts of the manifold.
Not including ECU work no, but as always it better than not having it at all.
The dogs b****cks modified inlet manifold costs around £300 and is significantly better than matching as it involves a total reworking and reshaping of the entire manifold. Does get cut in half to do the work though.
Regular matching and flowing of the accesible areas is £150
silly question, would insurance/warrenty be able to tell if the inlet was modified? I think you might have to book me in post xmas for 1 of these!
Telling the ins is something you always want to do, and id assume that an appraisor would know as the surface finish is very different to that of cast ally.
Im tempted to run a group buy on inlet manifolds, but depends entirely on interest. If numbers are good a 30% saving is at hand, so its no small amount.
does seem a very good price, especially if its gonna give 8-12brake

does sound cool. i know i mite get flamed for this but im unsure as to wether id tell my ins company about inlet mani work as ive heard enough storeis with peoples car that have all sorts of discreet stuff done and still pay out but only a few horror stories.
anyways id be very interested in the manifold work for £300 10hp seems a bargin and torque increase would be good hmm.. 190hp and 160lbft in a 1080kg car sounds kewl
he said the gains for THE CHEAPER one are 8 brake! not the £300 one... so thats 8 brake for £150.. or maybe cheaper with group buy!! mental.. count me in.. can someone start a "group buy thread" so we can get this moving.. ill be up for this and Andys SMT groupie too... thats me counted in
I have already had this done.
I cannot see how it could alter anything if you are trying to match a misaligned area. It is I suppose like blueprinting?
Why would insurance need to know if you have corrected a problem that has come about by mass production?

PS After having this done/Prospeed exhaust/prospeed sports cat/ITG panel filter I still only get 179.2BHP on the rolling road. This was at the GDI rolling road session.

Be careful with the insurers. Anything they deem to be of engine modification can dramatically increase your premium or worse - void your policy altogether.
The knack is to find a firm that has open ears and listens to what you say regarding the work being done. Basic phone operators who simply click boxes on a PC screen at the other end of the phone will be useless.
Like I posted sometime ago, my Punto GT insurance went from £750 p.a up to £2,000+ - because I admitted to having an induction kit fitted. The performance gain and actual IK component itself were irrelevant to the insurers. It was the fact that it altered the factory-standard performance (even by a tiny amount) that caused the issue. They didnt bat an eyelid over the exhaust, the 17s, the strut brace or dump valve - because none of these improved the performance of the engine itself....

i think the main problem is if your car starts to run lean after the mod.
mine spat out 187 bhp on the rollers and is totally standard. now assumming that this is correct on my car and i have the inlet mod done i could end up with as much as 199 bhp for a few hundred quid (based on bens extensive inlet mod). I thought feckin great !
However if the car runs lean after the mod (which you dont know until its done) you would have to shell out best part of 700 notes for smt6 or risk detonation. I thought not so great !
i think the best bet is to have the inlet + smt6 done at the same time so you know your engine is safe.

dont use the "mathmatical" method to add power gains to your car
remember Rolling roads are unfortunatley not always accurate in terms of fly wheel power figures
They should only be used IMO for before and after comparisons, and to check fueling
