182 Leaking and some other issues

  Clio 182
OK, so I noticed a seriously wet drivers foot-well after the heavy rain a few weeks back. After drying it out and having more rain, I'm getting a pool in the recess under the seat. I notice there's some air/aircon vent pointing right in that area too...

Other issue i wonder if anyone else gets: my car is really grumpy on a cold start, the throttle behaves really strangely for a few minutes and the car sounds odd ('plinky'/banging sounds if i back off the throttle) and then becomes perfectly fine. I've had it into a local garage a few times they couldn't find the leak on quick inspection and they cleaned the butterfly valve - which improved the throttle feel but not the cold start thing.

Other details - car is a non-cup pack 182 with 62k on the clock.

Any help greatly appreciated (also Ii'm not exactly confident in fixing cars myself but I can have a go...)

Perfectly normal cold start behaviour on an f4r engine pinking and popping are also normal.

the drivers footwell is something to do with some drainage holes under the scuttle panel i think? someone shall confirm though

Thanks for the reply, nice to know the engine start thing is normal.

I might be able to get the wipers/scuttle panel off this weekend so i'll post the fix if i'm lucky enough to find it...

Yeah it was the drainage area behind the scuttle panel in the end - it's a right pain to get to, I got it cleared at a garage in the end along with a minor service :(

Old thread but I have exactly this problem, the scuttle panel under the wiper cover is filling up with water. How can you clear it? It's such a small space to reach down!

There is a hole at each end, behind the top mounts, then there is one in the middle, it goes down behind the sound proofing in the engine bay.

They block up with general sh1t and bit's of leaves etc, this will result in the water getting in through the back of the heater .

Cheers Tony, I'll have to have a look down there and see if I can clear it out this weekend. Fingers crossed this fixes it, pulling a car cover over it every time it rains is getting a bit annoying
