182 limiter

Car  182
hi, i bought a clio 182 about six weeks ago. When i got it i could rev it all the way up to bout 7000rpm if not abit more. Driving home yesterday i noticed it was limiting at 6600rpm. I thought it might of been because i had the heating on full or somthing so i turned everything off including the radio. but it is still doing it. what should a 182 limit at? and has anyone else had this problem?

Let the car warm up, If the engine is not fully warm it will hit the limiter earlier.

I can not remember the original limiters because mine have been changed by RStuner remap.

let the car warm up properly with a good 15mins of driving before you rag it. you engine will appreciate it.

your car's water temp was not over 80 degrees so it will not allow you to rev higher.

que bash's advice about boiling water ;)

thanks i will make sure its warm in future. i guess its to protect the engine then? ive just had the timing belt and major service done by renault so i didnt know if it was something they have done

yep, its to protect the engine. some people think its a shift light... its not, its a limiter.
definatly not something renault have done.

i have a very simelar car. b/g, full cup packs, milltek exhaust, graphite ultraleggeras, tow eye and sticker, sportlines :)

From the manual

Max. engine speeds for a coolant temperature < 75°C 6,700 rpm
for a coolant temperature > 75°C in 1st or 2nd gear 7,200 rpm
for a coolant temperature > 75°C in 3rd, 4th or 5th speed 7,000 rpm

Why rev the bollox off a car before its warm? :nono:

Maybe you have an issue with your thermostat. As above check the temperature guage.
