Who gives a toss? The stupid NCAP tossers give extra points for the buzzer that goes off for not putting on your seat belt.

Thats going to save your life in a crash.

well the stupid buzzer would annoy non belt wearers into either cutting a belt and plugging it on (bucket seat stylee) or simply putting their belt on so probably will save a life or 2...

They don't NCAP every variant of a model. The manufacturer may crash test a whole lot of cars during development but the NCAP people only do what they believe to be a representative sample based on whether there a variations in the crash structure and the safety equipment. I can't see from their web site that NCAP ever tested the 182 or the 172. All I see them having done is a Mk1 1.2, a Mk2 1.2 and a Mk3 1.5.

I heard somewhere that the Trophy only got 3 stars due to not having airbags in the seats?

Not sure if this is true or not?

The 182 and 172 are exactly the same as the 1.2 /1.4 etc exactly the same body shells.

Trohy and CUp both have 4 stars i eblive even with no side airbags.

FFS I always, always wear my seatbelt. But for things like parking and moving the car around when a seat belt is not necessary its just f**king stupid.

^^^ so you dont always wear it then ;-)

Buckets are safer in crashes any way. They tested the new RS4 and that hasnt got side airbags. Proved to be safer in side impacts than normal seats.
