182 tyre options

Ok so I'm down to a few cosmetic finishing touches and before I get the wheels refurbed I'm getting her a new set of boots, I've checked what's on the car and they are a missmatch of brands but all 205 45 16 I've checked black circles and put reg in they are saying 195 45 16, any advice?

Also what are other people running manufacturers etc.

My suggestion would be some Michelin Pilot Sport 3's, currently £115 a corner from Camskill.

I had missed tyres on my car (205/45/16) so I went for that size in yokohama ad08r tyres, which were great,then they changed the compound to help the environment but reviews wasn’t good,so I went to Michelin pilot sport 3(205/45/16) the side walls seemed soft compared to the Yokohama ad08s.I can’t fault the PS3s they’re a great all round tyre but expensive. when I put my reg in Blackcircles it say the tyres I need are 205/45/16s but no tyres are available…/www.demon-tweeks.com/michelin-pilot-sport-3- have them in.

from memory 205/45/16 was the factory 182 size where the 172 definitely used 195/45/16 but possibly it was 195 on the 182 and 205 on the cup pack cars?!

Michelin PS3 is my choice for a road car in that size

I've been running Avon ZV7s for the past couple of years on my 182 after a couple of recommendations.
The wear rate is brilliant. Never let me down in the wet or dry when pushing on and only £78 a corner

I'm a big fan of Rainsports, especially in the wet. I ran 2s and 3s for a couple of years. But the wear rate was rubbish. I could go through a set in 5k miles on the road that's why I never bothered trying Rainsports 5s.

I don't do a huge amount of road miles, Oulton is 10 miles away, they have lasted well on wet track days. The set I just bought cost me £226 delivered (15")

Looking at the original specs the 172 Cup was on 195/45/16 and the 182 was on 205/45/16.

For the 172 Cup do you recommend the original spec or move up to the wider 182 spec?

I always stick to 195 on a 172, ive found on 205s they skip on full lock, minor but always annoyed me

I’ve use rainsports (3 and 5) and they were good but they wore really quickly and the sidewalls always seemed quite soft.

I went to a set of R888Rs which are awesome in the dry but my god they are bad in the wet.

Thanks for all your help and advice, I don't seem to be able to order a set of PS3's anywhere so have looked at other options and been into a tyre place to ask their advice too, I was told 2 of the best options after the PS3's were Avon ZV7s ( great shout MRBILLYUK) and Maxxis HP5 Permitra never heard of the Maxxis so will probably go for a set of the Avon's and have them fitted at the same time I have the wheels done, still in two minds about wheels keep original colour of go gold/bronze any thoughts on wheel colour?

I'm 205 45 16, photo_ed posed a link for them on Saturday (only two days ago) and they were £115 but they only had one in stock now they seem to have had a delivery but put the price up to £140 per corner which is actually hard to swallow extra £100 in 48 hours, I think I'll go with the Avon

Never heard of the Maxxis.
Let us know how you get on with the Avons when you've had them fitted.
Like I said previously. I like a good, spirited drive and never had a problem in the dry or wet with them.
I wouldn't use tyres if they were crap.

I always order my tyres from Camskill. They're usually the cheapest. Then I take them to a local tyre place for fitting.

The Avons are decent tyres. Ran them on my 182 but not a patch on PS3. But it really comes down to how good your set up is and how worn your cars suspension components are. These are really old cars now.

195 will be more sympathetic than 205s if everything isn’t as good as it could be. 205 will tramline a lot more, especially with a trackday oriented tyre like AD08s, NSR, on these horrible roads of ours.

I’m running new PS3 205s now on my 182 but I’ve pretty much renewed everything and managed to get it set up perfectly. Such is the factory tuning on these cars, even a premium tyre will feel crap if everything isn’t bang on.

Thank you, I'm hoping to get all the cosmetic jobs done between now and half term then it will be going in for hunter aliment, I'm pretty certain everything else is good on the car i did send it to Mickleton Service Station to sort mechanicals out and had they done everything apart from a few electrical issues and I had a bill of around 2k so I'm quite sure she is fine just needs new boots, if I'm 100% true to myself if the car is driven to 100% to its potential I will be the one failing not the car, in my younger days I thought I was more capable than I am and blamed some amazing cars for things that were clearly driver fault but we live and learn, from my short experience in the 182 I would be extremely surprised if 10% of owners extract 100% of the car on public roads it really is a great little car, I'd say it is more fun than my carrera s that is quicker but the Clio is like that naughty friend you had as a lad who dared you to do something only to end up in trouble she just keeps asking me to push her and I really do love been behind the wheel of her.

They're still available on Camskill for £69.50, the Nankang's are only any good for dry track use & even then they're pretty mediocre & marginally better than normal road tyres on track.

I've had my 172 Cup for 6 years and only ever had PS3's or ZV7's on it, I can safely say that I've not noticed anything different between the 2 performance wise and the only thing that would make me choose the PS3 is if they were cheaper than the ZV7's.

Your comment there scared me a bit as I'll be after another set of Avon's fairly soon for my new daily driver 172 after I've had the cambelt done and you had me thinking I wouldn't be able to get any more

I don't know who told you that? But it's not true. The Avon zv7s are still available from lots of different places and haven't been discontinued.
