182 Tyres

Im no expert on these matters, but why didnt reno put Run Flat tyres on the 182, rather than using those cans of cottage cheese? I personally have no intention of using the foam if I get a puncture - Ill be ringing for a mobile tyre repair..

I appreciate that the RF tyres have stiffer sidewalls (my wifes Cooper has them), but I thought that would have been a better thing rather than worse. Is it just Reno doing things on the cheap?

not really the tyre was specifically designed by michelen for the car.

run flats have good and bad points but more bad imo

its a more practical option agreed.

pretty much not worth worrying about really e.g

how many puctures have you had in your driving lifetime? been driving for 8 years done over 40k a year for the last 3 years and ive had 1 puncture in all that time.

not many I agree, but I aways had a spare. It worries me not having a spare, suppose if I was prepared to sacrifice the boot space I could put another wheel in there instead..

It just puzzles me why they didnt use the technology when its available and very applicable in the circumstances. They had the exalto tyres designed for the car, did they just forget to tell Michelin that they werent going to have a spare...?

Does tyre foam canister truely nacker your tyre if you use it

No but most tyre places wont want to spend the time scraping it all out of your tyre so will insist you buy a new one.

Runflat tyres are available but a compromise in handling and ride. Read any of the press reports on BMW and the largest criticism is aimed at the tyres.

I agree with Jeremy.

Z4, Mini Cooper, all the same...

The exalto 2 are designed for the 182 and I myself wouldnt want to put anything else on it and certainly not something that will effect the handling.

Ill live with the foam, after all I didnt buy the car because it was practical, I bought it because it was fast and handles like a dream, doesnt matter it costs far more to run than my old mini one - coincidentally this also had foam, and it wasnt even a performance motor!

Run flats really do compromise the ride, my mates bmw has them on his new 3 series, and compared to his old one (exactly the same model and shape etc) it has turned it very sloppy

Run flats weigh alot more than standard tyres, this adversly affects performance....think it in terms of an athlete running the 100m sprint with lead boots!
