185/55 v’s 195/50

Which will it be for my Willie? I need four new tyres and handling comes tops over price so should I stick as Renault intended or should I change as some others have? I must admit to finding the handling better than any other car I have driven especially over the wild back roads Ive been on recently so im reluctant to change from 185/55! Opinions please!

Get some 195/50/15 Toyo T1-S Proxes......or......if like you say handling takes priority over price, Goodyear GSD3s!

  H22A7 Accord Type R

ive got eh 195/50 15 toyos and i aint got any complaints!!! love em to bits, grip grip grip..........scrub scrub scrub.........oops

Regardless of the handling issue, 195/50/15 tyres are much cheaper and offer greater choice. I have this size on my "new" Phase2s and they seem fine - they offer a liittle less grip than my old 205/45/16 wheel/tyre combo but are less snappy on the limit.

Carlos.. Im in exactly the same position as you.... The williams is badly in need of new rubber as the old standard michelins I bought it with are now shagged.

I reckon Im going to go for some 195/50 toyos like everyone seems to. Primarily cause theyre a tenner cheaper each than the 185/55s and the difference in a 10mm wider track is going to be negligible IMO.

I should be ordering mine begining of next month so I you want to wait Ill get them and drop you a line with my thoughts.

Or you get them aswell and well have a standard williams shoot out.

well as i said before i have just bought the 185/55 Goodyear Eagle F1s GSD3s, grip all the way if not better than the 195/50 i used to have on my pug gti (same tyres)

i paid £60 per tyre fitted and balanced and they are the dogs nads, i had p-zeros before on the clio and they were good but i think these are just htat little bit better!

Cheers Dan but I may need them earlier than that. I am heading towards 195/50s Toyos/F1s but got a wee bit more research to do:)

Anyone got pics with 195s on?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dont play with F1s. They are disappointing....

Rd use, some bridgestones or Yoky A032/038s......wear on them aint too bad actually, will last a decent 1000-1500 miles.....

for the grip your getting yup!

My Bridgestone RE-720 lasted 1800 miles and a trackday, but they were GOOD tryes.

Yeah, talk about timing im looking to get some new tyres in the near future too.

The bloke who owned it before put 195/50s on it, I was thinking of going back to 185/55s,

DanG when u get ur new tyres, can u let me know how good they are?

Cheers

I had 185/55s on when I bought the car but had a new set of 195/50s that I put on. Initially I was very disappointed with the "feel" of the car. Didnt seem as nimble. More grip, but less feel. When Ive murdered this set of tyres, Im putting 185/55s back on. Im used to the 195s now, but my inital reaction is that they spoilt the handling a bit.

lol.......i have a cheap source for part used rd leagal circut rubber, so its not too bad.

still, you did say money no object! lol

Still say bridgestones are good

I asked for 185/55 eagle f1s and they couldnt get a seal. they put 195/50s on in the end. I know this isnt fully scientific but they stacked 4 eagle f1 185s against the 185s that came off and the f1s were loads narrower. The grip in the wet is amazing but in the dry while they grip well I am sure the car understeers more then it used to. Its been ages since Ive had a proper Walter Rohl style winding on the lock moment or maybe I am just getting old. Also 4500 miles of mainly motorway driving and they arent looking that healthy.

getting old ;)

you can tell since you mentioned walther rohl, not many know who he is on here without searching, not to mention what cars he drove.....lol

not a fan of the F1s, and well, the 195s work jsut as well and are cheaper. 10mm less contact wont really make it more nippy

i still reckon my f1s are the dogs dangles, ive been pushing the valver into roundabouts at stupid speeds and i still cant get the bugger to understeer!!! i will happily take anyone out (benr) to demonstrate this! :devilish:

ok mate.....see you at coomb!!!

and if you cant get it to understeer, i suggest pressing the pedal on teh right instead on the middle.

lol........

Well for what its worth im getting the Evo tyre review at the weekend, I know they gave F1s the win but I want to see what they reckon on the rest.

LOL it would be easier to everyone like the same bloody tyres - at least a group likeing one tyre but everyone likes and hates different ones!! Im going to get a different one on each corner F1 - S03 - TS-1 - Remold;)

Walter Rohl... Porsche? Nurburgring? Or am I getting my EVO brain mixed up?

I reckon go for the 185/55s - seem to be a bit more nimble than the 195s IMHO. Seeing how well renault did on the rest of the chassis, it seems silly to go against their advice on the bit that sticks you to the road! :)

Any 1 hav a theory on if the Clio has been lowered (say 35mm) will it still understeer more with the 195s? Cheers, Mikey.
