just been to renault at preston looking to buy a 182. the salesman was trying his best to flogg me a 197 saying how theyre much better because a 197 actually has 197bhp whereas a 182 only has 160 something. also the 197 is only insurance group 14?! is any of that true? lol

No RS makes book power but the 197 appears to be the worst of the lot. IG 15 as well.

i 100% made it clear i wasnt interested in a 197 though, i said my budget was 9k and that i didnt like the look of a 197 at all

i had a test drive about 6 wks ago at a different dealers and i knew 10 times more than the salesman did which i found quite funny, he was rather intimidated to say the least!

That's the point where he'll say £9k plus £220 a month finance for 4 years and you might as well have a 197 etc etc.

lol, eeee you're brave hehe. i know i know but my family are dead iffy on buying private, ive said thats the only way im gonna get what i want within that price range but they dont seem to listen! and as soon as something went wrong with it if i bought private, i'd get the old "told u so"

lol, well having had nothing but bad experiences at about 3 dealers I'm happy to tar 'most' of them with the same brush. They don't have a shocking reputation for no reason though, it has to stem from somewhere.

Take into account you are comparing Clio with Clio and that no two make the same power and you'd need 5 of each to make a fair assessment of it imo. The 197 may well be just as quick, but the one I had a run in with would get spanked by the missus' 172 which is lightly modded (decat, cat back and filter) and probably only 180ish bhp at most.

I know the offer was cheeky but f**k it.

Told me that and then said 9500 was the lowest he'd go.

Just been and got- private- same exactly and in slightly better condition 54 plate car for £8100.

Tried justifying his price with warranty etc etc... an 05 will have about a year on it anyways and my 54 has 8mths anyway.

Oh well..

This is just from playing about against Laura's 172 though, it keeps up a lot better than the 197 did. I'd actually bet money on her 172 panning one from a roll.
